Oklahoma State Cowboys at Pittsburgh Panthers
NCAAF: Heinz Field, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania at 12:00 PM ET, Saturday, September 16, 2017
The Line: Oklahoma State Cowboys -13.5
The Oklahoma State Cowboys head to Pennsylvania to face the Pittsburgh Panthers at the Heinz Field for week 3 of college football. Both teams are coming into this game with the confidence of wins in their previous games, albeit in contrasting fashion.
Rudolph breaks record in another offensive show
Mason Rudolph and the Oklahoma State Cowboys had another stellar offensive game. They cruised past the South Alabama Jaguars 44-7 to register successive wins to open the season. Rudolph passed for 335 yards to break the Cowboys’ passing record.
“That’s not even one of the goals on my goal sheet,” Rudolph said. “Getting the Big 12 title is the ultimate goal, and it’s going to take a lot more of these performances to get there.”
Unfortunately for the Cowboys, linebacker Kevin Henry will miss the rest of the season with a knee injury he sustained during training on Thursday. Coach Mike Gundy said it was a non-contact injury.
Panthers overcome Penguins in wild finish
The Pittsburgh Panthers blew a 21-point halftime lead, but somehow scraped past the FCS Youngstown State Penguins 28-21 in overtime to record their first win of the season.
“Everyone wants that first game to be a blowout,” Pitt QB Max Browne said. “We were forced to stand in there and have a fist fight, which a lot of teams may have to wait 3-4 weeks to get that test, we got it Week 1, right away. You learn a lot and you learn when adversity hits we can come through when it’s crunch time.”
The Panthers are still to reach anywhere near their optimal offensive level. They have scored an average of 21 points over two games, and have accumulated just 163.5 passing yards per game.
Oklahoma State Cowboys are:
- 4-0 ATS in their last 4 non-conference games.
- 5-1 ATS in their last 6 road games.
- 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games after allowing less than 100 yards rushing in their previous game.
Pittsburgh Panthers are:
- 1-4-1 ATS in their last 6 games in September.
- 1-5 ATS in their last 6 home games vs. a team with a winning road record.
- 0-3-1 ATS in their last 4 games overall.
The emotional fallout of that win could be a negative factor for the Panthers against a team at their offensive best. The Cowboys are fresh, rejuvenated and confident.
The Pick: Oklahoma State Cowboys -13.5
