The Line: Ole Miss Rebels -3.5
The California Golden Bears host the Ole Miss Rebels at the Memorial Stadium in Berkeley on Saturday night. The Golden Bears eked past the Weber State Wildcats in week 2 and the Ole Miss Rebels cruised past the UT Martin Skyhawks.
Can someone stop Shea Patterson?
The Ole Miss Rebels coasted to their second consecutive high-scoring win, handling the UT Martin Skyhawks 45-23. Shea Patterson continued his terrific form, taking his season tally to an astounding 918 yards for nine touchdowns already.
“To be mentioned with anything connected to Eli and Archie (Manning) is an honor,” Patterson said. “No one person can break a record. It takes more, so I just thank my teammates. That’s what makes us dangerous, we have so many weapons.”
Patterson has been so good that the Rebels are the best passing team in the country, having accumulated an average of 459 passing yards per game.
Golden Bears seek consistency despite win
The season opener was close, but the California Golden Bears were involved in a thriller in week 2, beating the Weber State Wildcats 33-20. Patrick Laird ran for 191 yards and three touchdowns.
The Golden Bears were trailing 20-17 going into the fourth quarter. “That level of play is going to get us beat later on during the season,” linebacker Raymond Davison said. “Great for the win but we have to pick it up.”
The Golden Bears have allowed 25 points per game (tied for 68th in the country) and have scored an average of 34 a game; not too bad, but with plenty to still improve on.
Ole Miss Rebels are:
- 8-2 Under in Rebels last 10 games after accumulating less than 100 yards rushing in their previous game.
- 21-6-1 Under in Rebels last 28 road games.
California Golden Bears are:
- 4-1 Under in Golden Bears last 5 games after accumulating more than 200 yards rushing in their previous game.
Both the Golden Bears and the Rebels are strong offensive teams, which is why the line is a tad high. The offensive intensity is bound up come down at one point, which should be enough to ensure this game doesn’t go over 71 points.
