Florida International Golden Panthers at Miami Hurricanes
When and Where: Saturday, September 22 at 3:30 p.m. ET at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, FL
Both teams are coming off back-to-back wins. Miami had the more impressive win as the Hurricanes dismantled Toledo in Toledo last weekend, but Florida International was able to bully the UMass Minutemen. The Golden Panthers have impressed offensively this season, led by quarterback James Morgan and his six touchdown passes. Miami’s Malik Rosier has had some nice moments, although he struggled in his opening season game against LSU.
Coming Off a Blow Out Win
James Morgan threw for 207 yards and two scores in the win over UMass over the weekend. The Golden Panthers put a beating on the Minutemen a week after barely squeaking by against Old Dominion. Florida International lost its season-opener against the Indiana Hoosiers by 10. It’s been a solid season so far, but Florida International has a tough, tall task facing a hungry Miami Hurricanes team. The Golden Panthers are averaging nearly 40 points per game, while allowing 27. It’ll be tough to run on the Hurricanes, but Florida International has had plenty of success running through three games, averaging 229 yards per game. Junior Shawndarrius Phillips leads the team with 249 yards and four touchdowns. He’s averaging 5.5 yards per carry.
Opponents have been able to move the ball on the Golden Panthers. The defense is definitely in for a challenge against Miami. The Hurricanes haven’t played good competition since their opening-season loss to LSU, but Miami has a terrific offense. The Florida International forced three turnovers in the win over the Minutemen. Teair Tart also had two sacks as the team finished with three in the win over UMass. Miami will be able to have success against Florida International’s defense.
Hurricanes getting back on track
After winning 77-0 over lowly Savannah State, Miami went into Toledo and put together an impressive performance. Toledo isn’t a great team, but winning on the road by 25 points was a great feat. Malik Rosier threw for 205 and two touchdowns, while rushing for three scores. His dual threat capabilities were on full display Saturday against the Rockets. DeeJay Dallas rushed 17 times for 110 yards and a score. Miami has a nice group of receivers as Jeff Thomas and Lawrence Cager each had over 60 yards and a score against Toledo.
Miami had four sacks in the win over Toledo. The Hurricanes managed an interception, too. The Hurricanes dominated the line of scrimmage, which wasn’t a surprise as they managed 13 tackles of losses Saturday. That success should continue this weekend against Florida International. The Hurricanes should be able to dictate with their talented front seven.

The Bottom Line What to bet on this game.
Full-Game Side Bet
The Golden Panthers will have a tough time hanging with the Hurricanes, but even if Miami gets off to a tremendous start, Florida International will be able make things interesting with their passing ability. The Golden Panthers aren’t going to be able to run the ball that effectively, but they have the pass catchers to keep them within three scores. The Hurricanes win, but 26.5 points is a lot, especially against a Butch Davis-led team.
Prediction: Florida International +26.5
Full-Game Total Pick
Miami’s offense has kicked it into another gear lately. They could easily put up close to the total by themselves. Rosier will be tough to stop thanks to his ability to run and throw. The speed of the Hurricanes is always a factor when they play a non-Power 5 team.
Prediction: Over 58.5
Half-Time Side Pick
Expect the Hurricanes to get off to a tremendous start. Florida International might score some garbage time touchdowns with the game out of reach, but Miami will showcase why its the superior team from the beginning.
Prediction: Miami -16.5
Half-Time Total Bet
The Hurricanes can win and put up points in any capacity, which makes for an exciting first half. Florida International might have a tough time responding to Miami early, especially with the game being in Miami.
