Where: Bryant-Denny Stadium, Tuscaloosa, AL
When: Saturday, September 22, 3:30 PM ET.
Jimbo Fisher will be trying to lead his Texas A&M Aggies to their first conference win of the season when they visit #1 ranked Alabama in Tuscaloosa on Saturday.
Aggies trying To Make Statement
The Aggies believe they aren’t getting the respect they deserve and will be trying to make a statement when they face the Crimson Tide on Saturday. The Aggies have won two of their three games this season with the only loss being a two-point loss to second-ranked Clemson. Despite their play, the Aggies are still unranked and they will be trying to change that on Saturday.
In their last game, the Aggies defeated University of Louisiana Monroe 48-10 in a game that was never in doubt. The Aggies dominated the Warhawks on the ground, finishing with 281 yards and four touchdowns on 45 carries.
The Aggies also had success through the air against the Warhawks, completing 19 of 27 passes for 249 yards and one touchdown.
Texas A&M won’t move the ball as easily as they did against the Warhawks because the Crimson Tide play very good defense. They will likely have more success running the ball than throwing it, but it won’t be an easy task against this defense.
The Aggies have played well defensively this season and gave up 28 points in their game against Clemson’s high-scoring offense. If they can slow down Alabama’s passing attack on Saturday, they will put themselves in a good position to win the game.
Crimson Tide Going For Fourth Consecutive Win
The Crimson Tide were supposed to face their toughest challenge of the young season against Ole Miss in their last game, but they easily dispatched the Rebels, winning the game 62-7 on the road. They will now turn their attention to the Aggies as they go for their fourth win in a row.
Offensively, the Crimson Tide have been great throwing and running the ball. With Tua Tagovailoa and Jalen Hurts sharing the quarterback duties, the Crimson Tide are averaging 308 passing yards per game, which is 29th in the country. The team also averages 236.7 rushing yards per game, which is 27th in the league.
Alabama should be able to move the ball against the Aggies, but they can’t afford to settle for field goals against a team looking for the upset.
Tagovailoa has played great in the first three games and is usually on the sidelines in the second half because the Crimson Tide have a big lead. He should have success throwing the ball against Texas A&M’s secondary which has given up five plays that went 40 yards or longer in three games.
If the Crimson Tide get off to a fast start, the Aggies will struggle to catch up, going up against Alabama’s defense.
- 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games in September.
- 4-1 ATS in their last 5 home games.
- 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall.
Texas A&M is:
- 4-9-1 ATS in their last 14 conference games.
- 2-5-1 ATS in their last 8 games after accumulating more than 200 yards rushing in their previous game.
- 20-47-1 ATS in their last 68 road games vs. a team with a winning home record.
The Bottom Line What to bet on this game.
Full-Game Side Bet
The Crimson Tide have been great at home in their last five games and are perfect against the spread in their last five September games. The Aggies have struggled in their last 14 games against SEC foes and they have also struggled on the road against teams with winning home records.
Prediction: Alabama Crimson Tide -26
Full-Game Total Pick
The Crimson Tide have gone over in all their games this season thanks to an offense that averages 56.7 points per game. The totals have also gone over in four of Texas A&M’s last five games.
Prediction: Over 61
Half-Time Side Pick
The Crimson Tide are averaging 39 points per game in the first half of their last three games and they have held their opponents to 2.3 points in the first half. The Aggies, who are averaging 13.5 points in the first half, will have a tough time keeping up with the Crimson Tide in the first half of this game because their offense isn’t as explosive as Alabama’s.
Prediction: Alabama Crimson Tide -15.5
Half-Time Total Bet
Alabama’s offense has been playing so well that their starters haven’t had to play the second half of games this season and I don’t see things changing against the Aggies. Texas A&M is coming into this game trying to upset Alabama, and they will need their offense to keep up with Alabama’s which will take the total over 33 at the half.
Prediction: Over 33
