We have a non-conference NFL game for Thursday night when the New York Giants meet the New England Patriots in Foxboro. This will be the eleventh meeting between the two franchises with the Patriots holding a 6-4 edge and the Giants have a couple of Super Bowl wins over the Patriots.
The Giants are third in the NFC East and just saw their two-game winning streak snapped in a 28-10 home loss to the Minnesota Vikings. New England is one of two remaining unbeaten teams and blasted the Washington Redskins with a 33-7-week five road win.
Barkley Likely Out for Thursday NightNew York had their two-game winning streak snapped this past Sunday as the Giants were tripped up by the visiting Minnesota Vikings 28-10. Giants quarterback Daniel Jones threw for 182 yards, one touchdown, and an interception and was sacked four times in what was a rough day against the Vikings defense. Wide receiver Darius Slayton hauled in four of five targets for 62 yards and a touchdown in a losing cause for New York.

Running back Sequan Barkley will likely miss his third consecutive game with an ankle injury and this is a huge loss for the Giants. Tight end Evan Engram is listed as questionable for Thursday night and is the Giants leader in targets (48), receiving touchdowns (2) and leads the Giants with 373 receiving yards.
Jones has done a decent job since replacing Eli Manning and has thrown for 760 yards on 70-109 passing with four touchdowns, three interceptions and has been sacked nine times this season. He’s up against the best defense in the NFL, allowing 238 total yards per game with just 160 passing yards allowed with 11 interceptions and 24 sacks this season.
If Engram can’t play, Jones will have to rely on wide receiver Sterling Sheperd and his 267 receiving yards with one touchdown and wide receiver Darius Slayton with 157 receiving yards and one touchdown. Recently signed wide receiver Golden Tate saw six targets in his season debut and could figure in prominently for the Giants on Thursday night.
Barkley is a huge loss and especially against a Patriots defense allowing just 78 rushing yards per game. New York might also lose their second-leading rusher if running back Wayne Gallman can’t clear concussion protocol. Gallman has rushed for 107 yards and a pair of touchdowns with an additional 79 receiving yards and a touchdown. New York might have to rely on running back Jonathon Hillman to carry the ball and he’s rushed for 53 yards on 19 attempts since Barkley went down.
Patriots Rolling Through NFL SeasonNew England is rolling through the National Football League and their fifth victory of the season came in week five with a 33-7 beating over the Washington Redskins in Washington. Quarterback Tom Brady threw for 348 passing yards, three touchdowns, and an interception but suffered four sacks on the day. Running back Sony Michel chipped in with 91 rushing yards and a touchdown and wide receiver Julian Edelman hauled in eight of nine targets for 110 yards and a touchdown to lead New England to its fifth win of the season.

The Giants allow an average of 409.4 yards of offense per game with 130 rushing yards and 279 passing yards per game. The Giants have recorded 13 sacks and picked off five passes this season.
Brady has thrown for 1409 passing yards this season on 118-197 passing and has thrown for 10 touchdowns, two interceptions and has been sacked seven times this season. He should have a field day Thursday night against a Giants defense allowing 279 passing yards per game.
Running back Rex Burkhead has been ruled out for Thursday and it will be up to Michel to lead the rushing attack. Michel has run for 262 yards on 78 attempts for three touchdowns this season with an additional 32 receiving yards. Running back James White has 63 rushing yards and is more of a third-down back with 178 receiving yards, one touchdown and three plays of more than 20 yards this season.
Wide receivers Edelman, Josh Gordon, and Phillip Dorsett are all listed as day to day for Thursday night and this is a normal distinction for the Patriots receiving corps. Edelman has 336 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns this season and was a limited participant in Monday’s practice. Gordon has 280 receiving yards with one touchdown and was also a limited participant Monday. Dorsett left their game with Washington with a hamstring issue and has 197 receiving yards and three touchdowns and didn’t participate in Monday’s practice.
- Patriots are 13-3 ATS in their last 16 home games vs. a team with a losing road record.
- Patriots are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games after scoring more than 30 points in their previous game.
- Patriots are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 Thursday games.
- Giants are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games on FieldTurf.
- Giants are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games after accumulating less than 150 yards passing in their previous game.
The Bottom Line What to bet on this game.
Full-Game Side Bet
That's a LOT of wood to lay but the Patriots defense is extraordinary and the Giants defense isn't. The Giants are banged up and even healthy, I would have a difficult time going against the Patriots. Brady is coming off a strong outing and he knows he's up against a shaky Giants defense and will likely let it fly on Thursday night.
Finally, this is a short week and that usually favors the home team and that would be the New England Patriots.
I'm laying the wood and playing New England to defeat New York on Thursday night.
Prediction: Patriots -16.5
Full-Game Total Pick
I don't see this as a high scoring game and I think most of the scoring is going to be done by the Patriots. The Giants' defense is one of the worst in the National Football League and a banged-up Giants offense is up against the best defense in the NFL. The Patriots will jump out to an early lead and then coast like they do nearly every week. I saw the following trend I think might be helpful for Thursday night.
Prediction: Under 42.5 Points
