Tennessee Titans vs Los Angeles Chargers
NFL: Sunday, October 21, 2018, Wembley Stadium, London, UK, 9:30 AM ET
The Tennessee Titans were in a fine form of three straight wins but they suffered a couple of defeats to Buffalo and Baltimore and now they are traveling to London to face the in-form Chargers. On the other hand, the Los Angeles Chargers are playing very well lately as they recorded three consecutive victories and are a win behind the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC West standings.
The Titans were held off the scoreboard in a blowout loss to the Ravens
Tennessee returned home after a heartbreaking narrow loss to the Buffalo Bills with hopes of bouncing back against the Baltimore Ravens, but a catastrophic performance from the offense and Marcus Mariota led to another defeat. The Titans recorded a miserable seven first downs and collected just 106 total yards in opposite to Baltimore’s 361 in a 21-0 loss as the Ravens’ defense terrorized quarterback Mariota and the Titans’ offensive line that proved to be powerless against Baltimore’s pass rush. This matchup is somewhat more favorable for Mariota and Tennessee’s passing offense that is one of the weakest in the NFL as they are averaging 164.2 yards per contest. They are facing the Chargers’ defense that allows 260.8 yards to the opposing receivers, so the Titans will be looking to do damage through the air rather than on the ground as Los Angeles allows under 100 rushing yards per game. The starting outside linebacker Derrick Morgan sustained a shoulder injury and will be out for a few weeks which will obviously hurt the Titans’ defense.
The quarterback Marcus Mariota is completing 63.6 percent of his passes for 793 yards with two touchdowns and four interceptions for the Titans. Mariota had one of the worst games of his career in a loss to Baltimore as the Ravens destroyed him with the team-record 11 sacks and the QB managed to record just 117 yards as he was under a constant pressure from Baltimore’s pass rushers. Marcus must improve along with his offense if the Titans want to return to the winning ways.
The Chargers are looking for the fourth straight victory
Los Angeles secured a tight win over the San Francisco 49ers before they booked a pair of comfortable victories over the Oakland Raiders and most recently, the Cleveland Browns. The Chargers scored a season-high 38 points in a 38-14 win as they recorded 449 total yards in opposite to Cleveland’s 317, while they dismantled the Browns on the ground, particularly rusher Melvin Gordon, who posted 132 rushing yards with three touchdowns. Los Angeles has the 6th best rushing offense that averages 137.3 yards per contest and they are facing Tennessee’s defense that allows 123.2 yards to the opposing runners, and the Chargers will have golden opportunity to exploit the ground now when Derrick Morgan is out.

The veteran quarterback Philip Rivers is completing 68.6 percent of his passes for 1702 yards with 15 touchdowns and only three interceptions for the Chargers. Rivers had a fine game in a win over Cleveland as he posted 207 passing yards for a couple of touchdowns and an interception, and although he’s facing the 5th best defense against the passing, Rivers should be good for another 200+ yard display.
- 5-1 ATS in their last six games played in October
- 4-1 ATS in their last five vs. AFC rivals
- 17-42-4 ATS in their last 63 vs. AFC rivals
- 2-5 ATS in their last seven games following a double-digit loss at home
- 1-5 ATS in their last six games played in October
The Bottom Line What to bet on this game.
Full-Game Side Bet
Los Angeles won four out of the previous six H2H encounters including the latest one, and the Chargers are looking closer to book the fourth straight win as their offense is red-hot at the moment. The favorite is 3-0-1 ATS in their last four duels, and the 5th best offense in the NFL is averaging 29.2 points per contest. Although the Titans have the 3rd best defense that allows only 17.8 points per game and conceded more than 24 points just once this season, their offense has been catastrophic and completely out of sync, so I don’t think the chargers will have problems to get a win.
Prediction: Los Angeles Chargers -6.5 (-110)
Full-Game Total Pick
The total is set at 45.5 and the rivals combined for 46+ points in four out of their last six H2H duels, while five of the Chargers six games this season produced more than 45 points. However, the Titans’ poor offense and good defense will likely prevent this tilt from going over on points and under is 4-1 in Titans last five games in October; under is 4-0 in Titans previous four vs. AFC, while under is 4-1 in Chargers last five games in October.
Prediction: Under 45.5 (-110)
Full-Game Prop Bet
Tennessee allowed more than 26 points to a rival only once this season when they fell short at Miami, 27-20, and although the Chargers scored 27+ in five of their six games in this season, I am backing the Titans’ defense to keep Los Angeles under and give their offense a chance to stay in the game.
Prediction: Team Points: Los Angeles Chargers Under 26.5 (-110)
Half-Time Side Pick
Los Angeles didn’t trail at halftime in four of their six games so far in the campaign, winning all four in the process, and considering that I am backing the Chargers to win in the end, I am also going with the Chargers to have a lead after the opening 30 minutes. On the other hand, the Titans weren’t up at halftime in the last four games, so the -3.5 spread on the Chargers is also an option here.
Prediction: Los Angeles Chargers (-225)
