We have a Monday Night Football matchup involving the AFC East when the New England Patriots and New York Jets square off for the 119th meeting between the two franchises. New England leads their series 64-53-1 and the Jets are hoping to make a small dent in that number on Monday night.
New England is 6-0 this season and enters this matchup coming off a 35-14 home victory over the New York Giants. New York is 1-4 this season and won their first game of the season this past Sunday with a 24-22 home win over the Dallas Cowboys.
Patriots Move to 6-0 After Beating GiantsThe Patriots remained undefeated after dispatching the New York Giants by a score of 35-14. Patriots quarterback Tom Brady threw for 334 yards and rushed for two touchdowns with one interception and wide receiver Julian Edelman caught nine balls for 113 receiving yards to lead the Patriots to their sixth victory of the season.
The Jets allow 358 total yards of offense per game; 262.2 passing yards and 95.8 rushing yards is what the Jets hold opponents too. New York has recorded seven sacks and has four interceptions this season.
Brady has thrown for 1743 yards with 10 touchdowns and three interceptions and has suffered 10 sacks. Brady has an additional three rushing yards and three touchdowns this season. He should have a field day against the Jets below-average secondary allowing 262.2 passing yards per game.
As usual, the Patriots have several key receivers listed as questionable for this matchup. Edelman is listed as questionable and leads the team with 449 receiving yards with two touchdowns, Josh Gordon is questionable and has 287 receiving yards and one touchdown and wide receiver Phillip Dorsett is questionable and has 197 receiving yards and a team-high three receiving touchdowns this season.
Running back James White is the Patriots third-leading receiver and has caught 31 passes for 224 yards and one touchdown and is fully healthy for this tilt.
New England might have a bit of trouble running the football against the Jets, but they have a good one to handle this in running back Sony Michel. Michel has rushed for 348 yards and three touchdowns and has an additional 59 receiving yards. Running back Rex Burkhead has 112 rushing yards with a touchdown with an additional 117 receiving yards and is listed as questionable for Monday night. Running back Brandon Bolden has also put in work and has rushed for 45 yards and a pair of touchdowns with an additional 72 receiving yards and a touchdown for New England this season.
Darnold Returns to Defeat CowboysNew York snapped a four-game losing streak with a solid, week six home victory over the Dallas Cowboys by a score of 24-22. Jets quarterback Sam Darnold returned from a three-game absence to throw for 338 yards, two touchdowns and an interception and Robbie Anderson snagged five balls for 125 yards and a touchdown to lead New York to its first victory of the season.

New England has the best defense in the NFL and allows 234.7 total yards per game on 161 passing yards and 73.7 rushing yards per game. New England has 14 interceptions with one pick-six and has recorded 25 sacks this season.
Darnold was strong against the Cowboys but is up against arguably one of the best defenses in NFL history. Darnold has thrown for 513 yards with three touchdowns and one interception and has been sacked six times and the Jets offensive line has allowed 25 sacks and they face a serious test against a Patriots defense averaging four sacks per game. Darnold has rushed for an additional one yard this season.
Wide receiver Jameson Crowder leads Jets receivers with 272 receiving yards and has yet to reach the end zone. Anderson is second on the team with 256 receiving yards and a touchdown and wide receiver Demaryius Thomas has nine catches for 108 yards without a touchdown. Tight end Ryan Griffin has 45 receiving yards and a touchdown for the Jets this season.
Running the football might be more difficult than throwing it and the Jets will turn to Le’Veon Bell and his 256 rushing yards and one touchdown with an additional 169 receiving yards and one score this season.
The Jets have injury concerns and here is the rundown straight from Head Coach Adam Gase.
- LT Kelvin Beachum (ankle): "It's going to be week-to-week still."
- TE Chris Herndon (hamstring): "Week to week. ... It's going to be about can we get him in practice, how does he feel at practice, how far can he stretch it?"
- LB Albert McClellan: "He's in the concussion protocol."
- RB/KR Trenton Cannon (ankle): "Day to day."
- LB Neville Hewitt (stinger): "Still day to day."
- LB C.J. Mosley (groin): "He's going to try to work in practice some tomorrow, so we're making progress there."
- CB Nate Hairston (knee): "He's going to try to work in practice some tomorrow."
- DL Henry Anderson (shoulder): "Hopefully we get later in the week and we get a chance to get him out to practice."
- G Kelechi Osemele (shoulder): "Not going to practice, still going through our process."
- Jets are 1-5-1 ATS in their last 7 games following a straight-up win.
- Jets are 1-6-1 ATS in their last 8 home games.
- Jets are 1-6 ATS in their last 7 games after allowing more than 350 total yards in their previous game.
- Patriots are 3-0-1 ATS in their last 4 games in Week 7.
- Patriots are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 road games.
- Patriots are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games on FieldTurf.
The Bottom Line What to bet on this game.
Full-Game Side Bet
This should be a good Monday Night Football game as the Jets are a decent team with Darnold under center but they aren't decent enough to cover the spread even if it was 15 points. New York already has enough trouble scoring points and now have to do so against maybe one of the best defenses to ever take the field.
New York might be able to stop Dak Prescott but they won't be able to stop the Patriots offense because no matter what the situation, the Patriots get the job done and I see them doing so again in this matchup.
I will lay the points and play the Patriots to cover the spread in this contest.
Prediction: Patriots -9.5 Points
Full-Game Total Pick
The Patriots aren't a big play explosive offense and methodically beats teams with precision. The Jets might try and go for the big ones but the Patriots defense is too good to allow that and I'm not sure New York has the weapons to do so anyhow. They'll try though and maybe they score 10 points with the Patriots scoring 24 points. And I think this is a maximum number of total points.
I will play the UNDER in this game.
Prediction: Under 42.5 Points
