On Sunday, there will be fewer NFL games than usual because there are six teams on bye weeks. One of the most intriguing matchups, however, at least for one city, is the battle for New York between the Giants and Jets. Kickoff is set for 1:00 P.M ET on FOX. The Jets are the home team in this one from East Rutherford, N.J.
Both teams aren't likely bound for the postseason but both are building for the future with young, highly-drafted quarterbacks. For the Giants, they have Daniel Jones from Duke, who has posted an 84.4 passer rating in seven games. The Jets have Sam Darnold from USC, who has been slightly worse than Jones in five games -- 70.5 passer rating.
The Jets recently lost to winless Miami and it got ugly immediately after. Per Brian Costello from the New York Post, Jets fans were chanting "fire Gase" near the Jets tunnel after the game.
Giants Looking to Win NY BattleThe Battle for New York is coming to New Jersey (?!?) on Sunday as the Giants and Jets will play at MetLife Stadium. The Giants are just 2-7 this year but hopes are high moving forward because of their first-round quarterback, Daniel Jones, who won his first two starts as the Giants No. 1 starter.
Since those two starts, however, things have gone downhill for Jones. That's expected as a rookie but still, he's thrown eight interceptions in his last six games and he's one of just seven NFL quarterbacks with a passer rating below 85.0. Jones needs to push the ball down the field against the Jets. In his two wins, he averaged 8.4 yards per attempt. Since, he hasn't had a game where he finished with a yards-per-attempt mark over 8.0.
Jones will be without star tight end Evan Engram, who is ruled out right now for their Week 10 matchup. Wide receiver Sterling Shephard, who has 25 receptions this year, is also listed as questionable for the Giants-Jets game.
Jets Season Getting WorseOutside of an upset win at home against the Dallas Cowboys, the 2019 New York Jets season has been a disappointment. They're currently 1-7 and they have scored less than 10 points twice in their last four games. Overall, they're averaging 9.8 points per game in their last four, all losses.

After a bout with mono, star quarterback Sam Darnold is back in the saddle. Unfortunately, he hasn't been playing much like a star since returning. Darnold has a 70.5 passer rating this year, the lowest among qualified NFL quarterbacks this season. His 6.2 yards per attempt is really concerning, especially considering their running back is Le'Veon Bell, who gets respect from all opposing defenses.
Speaking of Bell, there was an injury concern but it's believed that he'll be ready for Sunday's game. Bell has already caught 40 passes this season and is on pace for 80 this season. Demaryius Thomas, arguably their No. 1 receiver, is also dealing with an injury but he's expected to play as well.
- 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games following a straight-up loss.
- 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games overall.
- 4-11 ATS in their last 15 games in Week 10.
The Bottom Line What to bet on this game.
Full-Game Side Bet
This looks like a good spot for the Jets. We know they can come up big when the spotlight is on, as they did at home against Dallas, and a battle against the rival Giants definitely classifies as a big game. Sam Darnold is more talented that Daniel Jones and he's going to win the quarterback battle here. After all, one of Daniel Jones' best receiving options, Evan Engram, is going to miss several weeks. For young quarterbacks, that can be detrimental. Sterling Shephard is dealing with a concussion so if he's ruled out, Jones won't have a ton of options in a big third-down spot. Jets head coach Adam Gase is dealing with a lot of blowback for their slow start. With that lingering in the air, expect him to come out with an extra solid gameplan for their rivalry game against the Giants.
Prediction: New York Jets +2.5
Full-Game Total Pick
With two sluggish offenses, the under is definitely the right side of the posted total for Giants vs. Jets. Historically, the matchup between the rivals yields low-scoring games and the trend is going to continue on Sunday. This decade, no Jets-Giants games have gone over. With both offensive units averaging less than 20 points per game, this game looks like it's going to wind up somewhere in the 30's.
Prediction: Under 44.5
