Minnesota Vikings at Buffalo Bills
NFL preseason: New Era Field, Orchard Park, New York at 7:00 PM ET, Thursday, August 10, 2017
The Line: Buffalo Bills -1
Two teams desperate for improved performances in the upcoming NFL season, the Buffalo Bills and the Minnesota Vikings meet at the New Era Field for the preseason opener on Thursday evening.
Treadwell strains leg muscle, out for a week
What exactly do the Minnesota Vikings need to improve on their 8-8 finish in the 2016 season? Their preseason camp hasn’t looked like a professional sports team, with several scuffles and brawls breaking out. In the NFL, don’t expect too many of those to be verbal.
Wide receiver Laquon Treadwell is highly doubtful for the preseason opener against the Buffalo Bills, with a strained leg muscle. He might even be out of their clash against the Seattle Seahawks.
Most of their key starters won’t get much play, save a few drives, mostly in the first half. But expect a camp that has picked up on intensity to come out firing. With each other or against the Bills, that remains to be seen.
Taylor-Watkins key to Bills season?
All eyes this season may fall on the partnership of quarterback Tyrod Taylor and WR Sam Watkins for the Buffalo Bills, who did not have a great 2016 season, finishing third in the AFC East with a 7-9 record.
But things are shaping up rather well for the Bills to mount a sustained challenge this season.
Safety Micah Hyde and Cordy Glenn have both been sidelined with hip and ankle worries respectively. Tight end Charles Clay was also kept out of practice in a bid to better manage his workload.
Minnesota Vikings are:
- 1-5 ATS in their last 6 road games.
Buffalo Bills are:
- No key trends
Personnel wise, the Vikings are slightly better in this match-up. But I’ve gone with the Bills in this one on account of their stability, both on the field and off it. The Vikings may implode at any point, and it doesn’t take much to change games.
