Miami Dolphins vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers Predictions, Preview, and Odds – 8-16-2019

On Friday night, The Miami Dolphins and Tampa Bay Buccaneers will do battle in this AFC East vs NFC South division matchup. Kickoff is set for 7:30 PM ET.

Television-wise, the matchup will be broadcast online with the NFL Game Pass.

Dolphins Ready For Battle Of Florida Game

The Miami Dolphins had a below-average 2018 season. No one is close to beating the New England Patriots for the AFC East division title, but that doesn’t mean you can’t at least try to get into a wild card spot. The Dolphins actually had one of the best home records in the conference at 6-2, but didn’t know how to swim on the road and they had a 1-7 record away from Miami. They held their own in the division by going 4-2 in those games, but what was their biggest downfall was giving up a total of 433 points, which was 13th in the conference.

Despite losing the last three games of the 2018 season and watching their wild card chances disappear, the Dolphins flexed their muscles in week 1 of the preseason. Miami beat the Atlanta Falcons 34-27. The offense scored throughout the game and they did well in the second half on both sides of the ball. Josh Rosen still played like an average quarterback, even his new Miami team. Rosen went 13 for 20, for 190 passing yards, 0 touchdowns, and 1 interception. Never feels like a good performance when you have more interceptions thrown than touchdowns scored. The rushing game was okay and a few guys rushed for some yardage. The main guy who helped in the charge up the field was Preston Williams, who had 4 catches, for a total of 97 yards. Also, the rushers did well at finishing the drives off for the scores.

The Dolphins are 1-5 in their last 6 games against the Bucs. Miami clearly struggles on the road and maybe they will fix the problem in this battle of Florida game. They will have to play well early and take it from there.

Bucs Look To Continue Dominance Over Miami

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers had a rough 2018 season as well. They finished with a 5-11 record, which was good for last in the NFC South, and they also went 1-7 on the road, just like Miami did. Maybe it’s just a Florida thing that most of their sports teams struggle, except the Florida Gators and Tampa Bay Lightning. Anyway, the Bucs also gave up the most points on defense, which was 464.

So, with more negatives than positives, this team was ready for preseason to get going. Even though they fought hard, they lost Game 1 of the preseason, 30-28, to the always tough Pittsburgh Steelers. Tampa Bay was able to score first, keep it close at the half, and then playback and forth scoring in the second half. The third-string quarterback for the Bucs opened some eyes in this game. Ryan Griffin went 26 for 43, with 330 yards, and one touchdown pass. Pretty solid production all game long and we shall if this brings some starting quarterback talks to the team. Dare Ogunbowale did well in rushing, by getting 10 carries, for 34 yards total, and 2 rushing touchdowns. Spencer Schnell also killed it on offense by getting 7 catches, for 119 total yards. The pass rush and overall defense had some trouble getting to all three quarterbacks that the Steelers threw out there.

A lot of positives to look at after that week 1 loss. Depth scoring showed up and the team was never really out of the game. Just need to try to control the game more and not make scoring runs easy for the other team. The Bucs should be able to control the game against the rival Dolphins because they have won 5 of the last 6 against them and the games, for the most part, are pretty close.

The Bottom Line What to bet on this game.

Full-Game Side Bet
Rating:

Both teams struggled last season and showed some good things off in week 1. The Bucs own the head to head battle, but it’s preseason and anything can happen. The games are close between these two teams and they have similar playing styles.

They know how to score, but can be sloppy at critical times. Right now the qb depth goes to Tampa Bay and their great production will show against Miami.

Prediction: Tampa Bay -3.5

Full-Game Total Pick
Rating:

If you like high scoring between two slightly below average teams and a rivalry, then this is the game for you. Both these teams scored a lot in week 1, but their defenses still need work.

These teams are pretty evenly matched, but don’t mess with the Pirates ship at Raymond James Stadium. Tampa Bay wins 31-24.

Prediction: Over 43.5
