We have week two of the National Football League preseason and this might be a good one when the Kansas City Chiefs and Pittsburgh Steelers meet on Saturday night. Kansas City is 1-0 in the preseason and drubbed the Cincinnati Bengals in their first preseason contest by a score of 38-17. Pittsburgh is also 1-0 this preseason and is coming off a 30-28 victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Mahomes Dazzles in 2019 Debut
Kansas City began their 2019 preseason with a bang by knocking off the Cincinnati Bengals by a score of 38-17. Quarterback and reigning NFL MVP Patrick Mahomes went 4-4 for 66 yards and led the Chiefs to a first-quarter score in just under one-quarter of play. Rookie quarterback Chase Litton threw two touchdown passes along with an interception on 11-15 passing for 122 passing yards.
Rookie speedster wide receiver Mecole Hardman and rookie running back Darwin Thompson each hauled in touchdown passes and did a fantastic job of running away from defenders in space.
After a recent practice, OC Eric Bieniemy discussed the KC offense:
“I think we’re right where we need to be,” Bieniemy said. “I think the guys came out and accomplished the goals that we needed to accomplish. The most important thing that we wanted to do is win last week, and I thought the guys did a great job of that. Now, the things that we’re focusing on – because we put it on tape – are just the details and the fundamentals. [We’re] just making sure that we’re focused on that moving forward.”

The Chiefs offensive line looked solid and allowed just one sack for six yards. The Chiefs also rushed for 115 yards and if the offensive line can remain healthy, the sky is the limit for this offense.
The Chiefs have a battle brewing for the backup tight end spot between five-year veteran tight end Blake Bell and second-year tight end Deon Yelder. Bell finished with two catches for 37 yards and Yelder snagged two passes for 32 yards and a touchdown on Saturday night against the Bengals.
Kansas City finished tied for sacks in 2018 with 52 and appear to be headed in that same direction by recording three sacks on Saturday night. The defense also had two interceptions on the night.
Steelers Rest Top Players and Beat Bucs
Pittsburgh got off to a good start to their 2019 preseason by narrowly defeating the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 30-28 in a contest where most of the prominent Steelers didn’t play. Second-year quarterback Mason Rudolph threw for 91 yards and a pair of touchdowns to lead the Steelers to their first win of the preseason.
Wide Receiver coach Darryl Drake passed away of a cardiac arrest this weekend. How this will affect the Steelers for this game remains to be seen.
Pittsburgh has a battle for the backup to quarterback Ben Roethlisberger. Rudolph and third-year quarterback Josh Dobbs both played well on Friday night and this is something to keep an eye on going forward.

Second-year running back Trey Edmunds is fighting to be a part of a very crowded Steelers running back corps. Edmunds rushed for 19 yards on six carries Friday night against Tampa Bay.
Rookie inside linebacker Devin Bush had a monster NFL debut with 10 tackles including seven solo cracks in just two-quarters of tackle football Friday night. If this continues the Steelers may have finally put together a strong defense, something that’s been lack for a while in Pittsburgh.
The Bottom Line What to bet on this game.
Full-Game Side Bet
I like what the Steelers have done with their defense, but they’ll have trouble with Mahomes and the speedsters Kansas City surrounded him with. Pittsburgh might play their regulars for a series or two, but it doesn’t appear Mike Tomlin is interested in winning preseason games and certainly not this week after the death of their wide receivers coach.
Full-Game Total Pick
This is going to be a high scoring affair as we have a quarterback battle in Pittsburgh and Mahomes and company could play an entire half of tackle football. The Chiefs defense looked good against the Bengals, but Pittsburgh knows how to score the football and I expect them to do so on Saturday night.
