Detroit Lions vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
NFL Preseason Week 3: Friday, August 24th 2018 8:00 PM EST TIME
The Detroit Lions are looking for their first preseason win as they head on over to Tampa Bay to take on the Buccaneers. The Buccaneers come into this week three preseason game with some momentum as they had a great outing from their starters against the Tennessee Titans. Expect both teams to have their starters go into the end of the second quarter.
The Detroit Lions have yet to have a successful offensive performance in the preseason so far, as that has been the biggest question mark heading into the month of August. With averaging less than 200 yards of offense per preseason game thus far, the biggest blame has come from the offensive line depth.
With right guard T.J. Lang still playing it safe from his 2017 ankle injury, the Lions gave a couple of opportunities for Kenny Wiggins, and Dan Skipper who have been a huge disappointment so far. Wiggins has the most experience as he has two years under his belt with the Chargers organization but it has been clear they had no problem shipping him off. Let’s see if the offensive line can help out with quarterback Matthew Stafford.
However, on the bright side, the Detroit Lions may have found their running back with LeGarrette Blount. The Lions have been giving chances to veteran Ameer Abdullah have been fumbling away his chances of getting the starting role.
Winston Looking Good Once Again
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers made some improvements to the offense with adding wide receivers DeSean Jackson as now quarterback Jameis Winston has the tools ready to compete with the rest of the NFC South. This was the first preseason game where Winston was able to showcase his talent and he did not let down one bit.
Winston finished the game with a win over the Tennessee Titans, along with 226 passing yards and two touchdowns. A perfect day for Winston as he completed 13 of his 18 passing attempts. Winston connected with his favorite targets including Mike Evans who hauled in 49 receiving yards and Jackson with his own 73 yards.
To go along with the great offensive performance, the Buccaneers may have finally found a kicker. Chandler Catanzaro has been the saving grace for this team as last year the Bucs ran into all types of kicking problems. Catanzaro has nailed all of his field goal attempts and each of his point afters.
- Buccaneers are 3-8 ATS in their last 11 vs. NFC
- Lions are 4-1-1 ATS in their last 6 vs. NFC.
- Lions are 6-0 ATS in their last 6 meetings in Tampa Bay.
- Lions are 10-2 ATS in their last 12 meetings.
- Road team is 5-1 ATS in their last 6 meetings.
The Bottom Line What to bet on this game.
Full-Game Side Bet
I always look for teams with added points in any preseason game. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have given up an average of twenty points so far this preseason and wont be able to stop Stafford for the whole game. Also expect Stafford to play more snaps as he barley got in a couple series in the loss against New York. Give me the two points as the Lions get their first preseason game.
Prediction: Detroit Lions +2
Full-Game Total Pick
The Detroit Lions have yet to slow any team down so far in the preseason as I can see them allowing another twenty-five plus points. Detroit had zero sacks in their preseason loss against the Giants, and if they do not get any pressure against Winston, he will be able to torch that weak secondary. As for the Lions offense, third time is the charm and they will finally get some offensive production against a weak linebacking core from the Bucs.
Prediction: OVER 44.5
