We have a non-conference NFL matchup to consider for Sunday when the San Francisco 49ers of the NFC West meets the New York Jets of the AFC East. San Francisco enters this game following a 24-20 home loss to the Arizona Cardinals and the Jets lost on the road to the Buffalo Bills by a score of 27-17. This is a great spot for both teams to get their first victory of the season and maybe a springboard to long winning streaks for both teams.
The Niners have grabbed 79% of the bets but they have gone from -6 up to just -7.
The OU Line has gone from 43.5 down to 41.5, with the Under snatching up 67% of the bets.
Gametime Weather: Mostly sunny with temps around 60
49ers Suffer Tough Home LossThe 49ers had a 13-point lead going into the fourth quarter but 14 unanswered Arizona Cardinals points led to San Francisco losing a heartbreaker by a score of 24-20. It was a tough home loss to swallow and the 49ers will look to regroup and try and get back on track when they travel to meet the Jets.
San Francisco racked up 243 passing yards behind quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo; the seventh year signal caller threw for 259 yards on 19-23 passing for two touchdown strikes without an interception. Garoppolo scampered for an additional nine yards on the day. Running back Rasheem Mostert hauled in four passes for 95 yards and a touchdown and running back Jerick McKinnon caught three balls for one touchdown.
The 49ers rushed for 123 yards and Mostert racked up the most, gaining 56 yards on 15 attempts and McKinnon added an additional 24 yards on three carries to lead the ground attack.
The defense allowed 404 total yards of offense against Arizona; 224 yards came via the air with 180 rushing yards. The 49ers had two sacks and safety Jaquiski Tartt picked off one of Kyler Murrays errant passes for the only Arizona turnover.
George Kittle is listed as out for this game due to a knee injury. The Niners are also playing without corner Richard Sherman, who was placed on the IL with a leg injury. Cornerback Jason Verrett will also be out due to a hamstring injury. The good news is that rookie Brandon Aiyuk (hamstring) will play his first game after missing the opener.
San Francisco’s Injury Report
Questionable: DB Ahkello Witherspoon and CB Jason Verrett
Out: CB Richard Sherman, TE George Kittle, WR Richie James, and WR Deebo Samuel
Jets Lose Bell for SeasonNew York traveled to Buffalo and didn’t get the outcome that they had hoped for, losing to the Bills by a score of 27-17. It was a difficult way to begin its 2020 AFC East season but they are at home and facing a 49ers side that is reeling from a tough loss and maybe New York can take advantage of this.
We've signed RB Kalen Ballage to the active roster.— New York Jets (@nyjets) September 15, 2020
Additionally, we've placed RB Le'Veon Bell, WR Denzel Mims and LB Blake Cashman on IR.
The Jets accumulated 202 passing yards and leading the way was quarterback Sam Darnold. The third-year signal-caller completed 21 of his 35 passes for 202 yards with a touchdown and one interception with six additional rushing yards. Wideout Jamison Crowder was the main recipient of Darnold’s throws, hauling in seven of 13 targets for 115 yards and a touchdown.
New York managed just 52 rushing yards on the day and running back Frank Gore led the way with 24 yards on six attempts and running back Josh Adams scored the lone touchdown. Running back LeVeon Bell rushed for 14 yards before leaving the game with a hamstring injury and has been placed on the injured reserve list.
The New York defense allowed 404 yards of offense last Sunday; 306 passing yards and 98 rushing yards is how the Bills scored their points. The Jets recorded three sacks and recovered two fumbles against Buffalo.

The Bottom Line What to bet on this game.
Full-Game Side Bet
The 49ers opened as three-point favorites and that line has now moved to -7 points. That does seem about right and while normally that would be too many points to give to a west coast team playing an early game in the East, the Jets are a mess and I wouldn’t be surprised to see the line go even higher. San Francisco is a very good football team that lost a heartbreaker at home and I expect them to come out and drill the hapless Jets. The New York offense is stagnant at best and the defense isn’t very good either. Garoppolo and company shouldn’t have too much trouble moving the ball and the defense should be able to shut New York down. I will lay the points and take the 49ers to cover.
Prediction: 49ers -7
Full-Game Total Pick
Vegas has posted a 43 point total that is now at 41.5 points. That number seems to be a bit too high for this game. The 49ers offense isn’t what I would consider elite and the game management style of play doesn’t lead to many points. The 49ers defense should be able to keep the Jets from scoring more than ten points and maybe San Francisco puts up no more than 28 points against the New York defense. I will be playing the UNDER in this game.
Prediction: Under 41.5
