Dallas Stars vs. Minnesota Wild
NHL: Saturday, January 18, 2020 at 9:00 PM EST
After winning six games in a row the Stars have lost two of their last three games. Their offense sputtered in the two recent losses and while they have issues scoring the puck all season they lead the league in GAA only giving up an average of 2.36 goals per game. Dallas has won four of their last five road games and on the season they are 15-7-2 on the road.
The Wild snapped their four-game losing streak in their last game where they played well on the defensive side of the ice. The same cannot be said in the last two games of their losing streak where they gave up 11 goals. The team is still in the basement of the Central Division and they are 1-1 against the Stars this season losing badly in the first matchup but winning the last one.
Offense Can’t Carry LoadIn their last game the Stars were at home and their offense was bottled up in a 4-1 loss to the Buffalo Sabres. The game was tied at 1-1 and then they allowed the go-ahead goal and allowed two late empty-net goals. Jamie Benn scored the lone goal for the Dallas and Ben Bishop (16-10 2.22 GAA) stopped 18 of 22 shots.
No player for the Stars has over 15 goals on the season and Roope Hintz leads the team in that category and only has one goal and two assists in his last five games. Tyler Seguin is the points and assists leader for Dallas on the season and he has four assists and no goals in his last five games. Not only have the Stars won their last five games facing teams from the Central Division but they have won their last six games where they failed to score over two goals in their previous game.
A Little Bit of D Goes a Long WayAfter getting peppered by seven goals in a bad loss the Wild rebounded in their last game with a 3-2 home win over the Tampa Bay Lighting. While the Wild only had 23 shots in the game they only gave up 20 shots and Alex Stalock (10-7-3 2.96 GAA) made 18 saves in the win. Devan Dubnyk (8-12-2 3.35 GAA) may get the call in this game and he has had a tough season so far and he gave up seven goals in his last start.
Zach Parise leads the Wild in goals on the season with 17 and he scored in the win over the Lighting and has scored three goals in his last two games. Eric Staal has 16 goals, but he has not lit the lamp in his last five games. On the season Minnesota is 12-5-4 at home and they have lost five of their last seven games facing a team with a winning record.
According to the betting trends from Oddsshark.com, the Minnesota Wild are:

- 6-1 in their last 7 games against teams from the Western Conference
The Bottom Line What to bet on this game.
Full-Game Side Bet
The Stars are coming off a loss where they gave up four goals. However, they are led by a solid defense and did not play badly on the defensive side of the ice in their last game where two of the four goals they gave up were on an empty net. The Wild are coming off a win but they have still not had a good season and not surprising since they have struggled all season, big time, on the defensive end of the ice. The Stars will not light the lamp often in this Western Conference matchup, but they will do so more than the Wild and Dallas will take this game denying the Wild the chance to move up in the Central Division.
Full-Game Total Pick
Dallas has played the best defense of the season so far and they will play great defense in this game. They really only allowed two goals in their last game with two coming on an empty net and previous to their last game they had not allowed more than two goals in eight straight games. The Wild will have major issues scoring the puck in this game and in the last game they only mustered 23 shots. The total has gone Under in six of the Wild’s last eight games and the total has gone Under in five of the last six games for the Stars, No need to deviate from those trends, as in this game in the Land of 10,000 Lakes the Under is the money pick.
