Tampa Bay Lightning vs. Florida Panthers Prediction, Preview, and Odds - 12-10-2019

On Tuesday night, the Tampa Bay Lightning and Florida Panthers will do battle in this Atlantic Division matchup. The starting goalies are Andrei Vasilevskiy for Tampa Bay and Sergei Bobrovsky for Florida. Puck drop is set for 7:00 PM ET.

Television-wise, the matchup will be broadcast on FSFL and SunS.

Lightning Looking For Better Road Play

The Tampa Bay Lightning are having an okay season. They are surprisingly just barely over .500 and sit in the middle of the pack in the Atlantic Division. They are fourth in scoring in the Eastern Conference with 103 goals and they have a goal differential of 11. The Lightning are 5-4-1 in their last ten games and 1-4 in their last five one goal games. Nikita Kucherov leads the team in assists with 21 and points with 31.

According to tampabay.com, the Lightning have a tough schedule coming up:

“You enjoy playing a good teams and that makes us better,” Tyler Johnson said. “Four games in six nights is a little tough as well. It’s just something we’re going to have to battle through mentally.”

In their last game, the Lightning lost to the New York Islanders 5-1. Tampa Bay out shot New York 32-24, but still ended up with a rough score. The Bolts didn't come up clutch in their good scoring chances and the Islanders did. Also, Tampa was robbed a few times by the Islanders goaltender. The Lightning won 58 percent of the face offs and didn't use that to their advantage. A lot of minus stats throughout the lineup and they will need to tighten things up.

Panthers Looking To Stay Hot On Home Ice

The Florida Panthers are having a nice season. They are second in the Atlantic Division, 6-4 in their last ten games, and they have won their last two games. Florida is a plus six in goal differential and third in scoring in the Eastern Conference with 105. The Panthers are currently on a six game home stand, where they have so far gone 3-1. Each of their three wins were by a three plus goal margin. This team has four skaters who have double digits in goals and assists.

In their last game, the Panthers beat the Sharks 5-1. Florida did everything right. Scored early and in every period. They were able to stop any good pushes that the Sharks had and Bobrovsky put up another 30 plus save effort. Plus, this team scored two power goals against the best penalty kill team in the league. The Panthers took care of the puck and ending up having ten different skaters on the score sheet.

According to wtop.com, Bobrovsky is putting together some good starts:

“I thought Bob was really good early,” head coach Joel Quenneville said. “San Jose had some good pressure in our end in the second period as well. I thought he had a real nice game.

“He was in control all game long. He had a very good weekend.”

The Bottom Line What to bet on this game.

Full-Game Side Bet

The Panthers will win this game because Bobrovsky will continue to string together some great goaltending performances. Also, Florida is rolling at home right now, while Tampa Bay has been very inconsistent on the road and in the overall game plan as well. Sure the Lighting can get flashy goal scoring, but they seem to be playing from behind a lot. Florida has a lot of depth scoring, a hot goalie, and confident scoring going for them. The Panthers would like to get on a little winning streak here, so that they can create some separation in that second place spot in the division. Both of these teams have good production on the power play and look for special teams to be the difference maker.

Prediction: Florida Panthers -110

Full-Game Total Pick

This game will go under 6.5 goals. The Lightning core players are very talented and all of them can set each other up, and score with ease at times. Tampa Bay just needs to transfer their home ice style of play to their road games. This will be a race to three type of game and the Bolts will try not to fall short again. The Panthers have made a few of these home wins look easy and this game won't have that feel to it. Tampa Bay is coming off of an ugly 5-1 loss and they will most likely bounce back. The game looked bad on the score sheet, but the Lightning ran into some good goaltending. That will be the case again in this matchup. Panthers win 4-2.

Prediction: Under 6.5
