San Jose Sharks vs. St. Louis Blues
NHL: Wednesday, May 15, 2019 at 8:00 PM EST
The Sharks crushed the Blues 6-3 in Game 1, but their offense fell flat in a 4-2 loss in Game 2. Now St. Louis has home ice advantage and the home team have won six of the last seven games between these teams. San Jose has to get back on the attack, as their D has not been great in the series giving up seven goals in the first two games.
The Blues used their strong defense to spurn their offense in the Game 2 win. They are back at home where they have played great defense in the playoffs and in their last two home games they have only given up three goals. St. Louis was 1-1 against the Sharks at home in the regular season winning the first game in a 4-0 shutout and then losing the 2nd 3-2 in overtime.
The Blues are the betting favorite in this game and the favorite has won five of the last seven games between these teams.
Good 2nd period at least
In Game 2 of this series in San Jose, the Sharks lost to the Blues 4-2 where they scored both of their goals in the 2nd period. While they did kill all five of the Blues power play chances they were shut out in the 1st and 3rd periods and their offense looked nothing like Game 1. Logan Couture had a solid game for the Sharks and was one of the few, scoring both the goals and he has scored two goals in each of the two games in this series.
Martin Jones gave up four goals on 25 shots and he has not been great in the series. He has allowed seven goals in the two games and in his last four starts he has allowed fewer than three goals only once. Erik Karlsson leads San Jose in assists in the post-season, but only has one of them in his last three games. The Sharks looked sluggish in the bad Game 2 loss on home ice and they need to fix that and get back to their scoring ways or they will lose this game.
Little better defense
In the Game 2 win, it is pretty obvious that their D played better only allowing two goals while allowing six in the series opening loss.

The offense fed off the great defense and St. Louis had balance in the game scoring one goal in the first and 3rd periods and two in the 2nd period. Speaking of balance, St. Louis had four different players score in the win, seven players had an assist, and Joel Edmundson notched two assists. Jaden Schwartz was one of the Blues players that scored and it would be an understatement to say he has played well in the post-season. He leads the club with nine playoff goals and in the regular season, he only had 11 goals.
Jordan Binnington was solid in between the pipes allowing two goals on 26 shots and the Game 1 loss in this series was his only start in his last five where he gave up more than two goals.
The St. Louis Blues are:
- 17-6 in their last 23 home games
- 17-8 in their last 25 overall
- 16-6 in their last 22 games as a home favorite
The San Jose Sharks are:
- 2-5 in their last 7 games as an underdog
- 3-7 in their last 10 road games
The Bottom Line What to bet on this game.
Full-Game Side Bet
I have to go with the Blues in this one, as they were more than solid in the Game 2 win and they have played well at home this season. On the other side of the coin the Sharks have had their issues on the road in the playoffs and they have lost seven of their last 10 road games. St. Louis will lean on their solid defense in this game and I see a game much like Game 2. Just like that game St. Louis will get the win and take a 2-1 series lead.
Prediction: PICK: Blues
Full-Game Total Pick
A couple of key betting trends point to the Under in this Western Conference Finals series matchup, but that is not the winning wager in this game. The total has gone Over in both games of this series and look for that to continue. Just like the last game the Blues will play good defense and also like the last game the total will go just over 5.5 goals.
Prediction: PICK: Over
