Boston Bruins vs. Carolina Hurricanes

NHL: Thursday, May 16, 2019 at 8:00 PM EST

The Bruins are on the brink of the Stanley Cup finals after beating the Hurricanes in Game 3 to take a 3-0 series lead. They had scored 11 goals in the first two games of the season, but won the last game with their defense, which only gave up one goal. The Boston D has been solid in this series only allowing five goals in the three games and they have only given up more than two goals once in their current six-game winning streak.

The Hurricanes have their backs against the wall down 3-0 in this series. While they shored up their defense in their last game only allowing two goals their attack continued to struggle. Carolina has totaled 10 goals in the last two games of the last series before only scoring five goals in the three games in this Eastern Conference Finals. Needless to say, the Canes need to get it done on both sides of the ice in order to avoid the sweep.

Not only have the Bruins won six in a row, but they have won their last eight Eastern Conference Finals games.

Taking the close one for a change

After outscoring the Hurricanes 11-4 in the first two games of this series Game 3 was close in the 2-1 Boston win.

The Bruins continued to play good D, which they needed since their offense was stymied. They were outshot 36-31 in the game, they scored one of their goals on the power play, and it was key that they killed all five of the Carolina power play chances. Boston scored both of their goals in the 2nd period with Brad Marchand and Chris Wagner, who was injured later in the game and may miss Game 4, scoring both of the goals.

Tuukka Rask allowed one goal on 36 shots in a great performance in between the pipes and he has only allowed five goals in his last four starts. Marchand scored the game-winner in Game 3 and in his last five games he has two goals and four assists. The Bruins have won 22 of their last 30 games following a win and if that trend continues they will be heading to the Stanley Cup Finals.

Attack is less than stellar again

While the Canes played good defense in Game 3 their offense struggled for a 3rd straight game. They had more shots and five power-play chances, but still only mustered one goal. They have lacked pressure in the crease and that needs to change in this game. Calvin de Haan scored the lone goal in the loss and that was his first playoff goal. Teuvo Teravainen leads Carolina in goals in the playoffs with seven and while he has four goals in his last five games he has only found the back of the net once in this series.

Curtis McElhinney gave up two goals on 31 shots in the loss and he may get the start in this elimination game, as #1 G Petr Mrazek was lit up in the first two games of the series giving up 10 goals on only 52 shots. While Boston has won their last eight Conference Finals games the Canes have lost their last seven Conference finals games.

The Bottom Line What to bet on this game.

Full-Game Side Bet
Rating:

Even on the road, the Bruins are the slight betting favorite. No surprise there being up 3-0 in this series and on top of that, they have won five of their last six road games. They will keep up the solid defense in this game and much like Game 3 this game will be a low scoring affair, However, unfortunately for Carolina fans, the outcome will be the same, as the Bruins will win, complete the series sweep, and head to the Stanley Cup Finals.

Prediction: PICK: Bruins

Full-Game Total Pick
Rating:

The total of Game 3 went Under after the first two games went Over. Still, while the Over bet has been the pick in the head-to-head trends I see this game being much like Game 3. That means it will be a low scoring defensive affair and because of that take the Under.

Prediction: PICK: Under

I dig every sport and the NFL is my favorite. My team is the Redskins and my 2nd favorite is whoever is playing the Cowboys! I am a great handicapper and if you don’t believe me just ask. I don’t just write about betting on games I actually bet on them and I have done well, which is why it is a good idea to follow my picks.
