St. Louis Blues vs. Boston Bruins

NHL: Wednesday, June 12, 2019, TD Garden, Boston, Massachusetts, 8:00 PM ET

The St. Louis Blues will face off against the Boston Bruins in Game 7 of the 2019 Stanley Cup Final at TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts, on Wednesday night to decide who will be the new champion. Over the previous two weeks, both teams won a couple of games on the road along with one victory on the home ice. The Blues blew a great opportunity to lift the trophy in front of the home fans, losing 5-1 to the Bruins in Game 6 this past Sunday.

The Blues need one more upset on the road

The St. Louis Blues (60-36-11) blew a massive chance in Game 6 to win their first-ever Stanley Cup, proving they are playing inconsistently at home this postseason. The Blues just weren’t aggressive enough while showing sloppy performance in their own zone. They lost the 1st period 1-0, allowing two more goals in the 3rd period before finding the net with 7:59 left on the clock. Just two minutes after cutting the deficit, the Blues allowed another goal that definitely set them in dire straits. St. Louis took 29 shots towards Bruins’ goalie and won 58.7% of faceoffs, but the Blues also ruined all their four power-play opportunities and recorded 12 giveaways.

Center Ryan O’Reilly scored the only goal for the Blues in Game 6, and he’s leading the team this postseason with seven goals and 14 assists. O’Reilly scored four goals along with three assists in this series. Winger Jaden Schwartz potted 12 goals and made six assists this postseason, but he’s without points in four straight outings. Defenseman Alex Pietrangelo recorded 15 assists and two goals, while winger Vladimir Tarasenko added 11 goals and five assists. Goalie Jordan Binnington made 27 stops in Game 6 with a .871 save percentage, while he was exceptional in Game 5 in Boston with 38 saves and a .974 save percentage. Binnington has a 15-10 record in the postseason with a 2.52 GAA and a .911 save percentage.

The Bruins forced Game 7 on the back of their superstars

The Boston Bruins (64-30-11) played with their backs against the wall on Sunday, and their key players stepped up to smash the Blues 5-1 and force Game 7 at TD Garden. The Bruins took 32 shots towards Jordan Binnington and converted one of their four power play opportunities to take an early lead that really helped them get through the game. Brad Marchand scored the opener with 8:40 into the 1st period, while Brandon Carlo and Karson Kuhlman both found the net in the 3rd period to set the Bruins in the commanding position. David Pastrnak scored the fourth goal for the Bruins, and Zdeno Chara made it 5-1 with an empty-net goal. Tuukka Rask locked down the Blues with 28 stops and a .966 save percentage.

Wingers Brad Marchand and David Pastrnak are leading the way for the Bruins, and when these two guys play well, the Bruins are winning their games. Marchand scored nine goals along with 14 assists in the postseason, while Pasternak added nine goals and ten dishes. Centers Patrice Bergeron and Charlie Coyle both scored nine goals each this postseason. Defenseman Torey Krug made 16 assists and potted a couple of goals, while center David Krejci has four goals and 11 assists. Goalie Tuukka Rask is enjoying a wonderful postseason, recording 15 wins and eight losses with a 1.93 GAA and a .938 save percentage.

The Bottom Line What to bet on this game.

Full-Game Side Bet
Rating:

The Blues showed many times this season that they can cope with the pressure, and they didn’t drop two straight games since May 3 and the conference semis against Dallas. On the other side, the Bruins put on a terrific performance in Game 6 of the Final when they were on the brink of elimination, so I expect to see a tight battle in Game 7. I think the Bruins will use the momentum following that 5-1 victory in St. Louis, so I’m backing the hosts to win the series. All three Bruins’ wins in the Final came by two or more goals, so take the puck line odds.

Prediction: Boston Bruins -1.5 (+150)

Full-Game Total Pick
Rating:

Although both Jordan Binnington and Tuukka Rask are playing in an excellent form, the over has hit in four of six games in this series. I would stick to the over in Game 7 because each goal will be a huge game-changer, and I always count on one empty-net goal in the 3rd period, hoping that one side will have a lead.

Prediction: Over 5.5 goals (+140)

Full-Game Prop Bet
Rating:

The Bruins won the 1st period twice in this series, and both their leads came on the road. Two of three contests at TD Garden saw a tie at the end of the first 20 minutes along with one Blues’ lead, so I expect the Bruins to snap their skid and storm the front in Game 7. Boston outplayed St. Louis in Game 6, and I hope the Bruins will carry the momentum into the 1st period of a decisive clash on the home ice. Also, the support from the stands could be a big factor.

Prediction: Boston Bruins -0.5 (+150)

Half-Time Side Pick
Rating:

After a bunch of 1st-period goals in Game 3 and 4, we saw just one 1st-period goal in the total over the previous two encounters. This one could easily go either way, but I will take the under for the first time in this series. Considering a massive stake, the Blues will be patient, while the Bruins will satisfy even with one goal in Jordan Binnington’s net.

Prediction: Under 1.5 (-135)
