Best Home Run Derby Bets – Top Pick To Win
James Wood (WSH) +400
For MLB fans that aren’t familiar with James Wood yet, they’re about to get a solid dose of him in the home run derby. He hasn’t played yet at Truist Park during his short career yet, but he does have 24 home runs which ranks top ten among all hitters heading into the all-star break this season.
Truist park does favor left handed hitters with shorter distances to the right field fence than left field and although there are multiple left handed bats in this field, Wood should be able to display a high endurance to get him through to the finals.
Sure, Cal Raleigh is the odds on favorite to win, but he’s only hitting .107 in July so far and the longer the event goes on, the more stamina you’ll need which were not confident Raleigh will have come rounds two and three.
Oneil Cruz has been vastly inconsistent with his power although he has a shot to hit the longest home run of the evening.
Bryon Buxton has been hot heading into the break, but being a right handed batter, he’ll be at a disadvantage tonight.
Take Wood to win the Home Run Derby at +400 odds having the most well rounded power hitting + stamina to get through the field.
2025 Home Run Derby Longshot Pick: Matt Olson (ATL) +900
If you’re looking for a longshot to win the Home Run Derby, consider hometown favorite Matt Olson who is replacing teammate Ronald Acuna Jr. on Monday night.
Olson is the only participant who has been in the Home Run Derby before as a member of the Athletics back in 2021.
Olson will have home field advantage and he’ll want to deliver something for the fans after a disappointing first half of the season for Atlanta.
It’s worth noting that the Braves concluded the first half with six games on the road, but in the first six games this month at home Olson went 8-24 with two doubles and two home runs, and although it seems Olson lost a lot of the power that saw him hit 54 home runs in 2023, he’ll be amped to get another shot at winning the Home Run Derby after losing in the first round in 2021.
There is a reason Olson is listed at +900 to win and although we’re putting more stock in Wood to win, Olson should use momentum from the home town faithful to make a run in the Home Run Derby.
