Manchester City vs Burnley | September 27 | 10:00 AM ET
Manchester City -575 | Burnley +1300 | Draw +700
Manchester City acquitted themselves well in last week’s 1-1 draw against Arsenal, only coming unstuck down in London thanks to a late injury-time equalizer from the Gunner’s Gabriel Martinelli.
A dominant 3-0 win against local rivals Manchester United prior to that game may mean City are back on the right path after suffering two early season defeats.
But with City suffering their worst five-game start in a Premier League campaign in almost twenty years, its safe to say that the champagne hasn’t been uncorked just yet.
Newly-promoted Burnley, meanwhile, have endured a tough start to the season overall, facing Tottenham, Manchester United, and Liverpool in quick succession across three of their opening five games, and while their defense has struggled at times, they’ve actually given up less than a goal per game from open play so far, with no team having more penalties accrued against them than Burnley have.
Manchester City have so far averaged just 1.50 GPG at home, and are riding their lowest shot count in twenty-five years also.
We believe Burnley’s better-than-advertised defense, combined with the fact that City aren’t the juggernauts of old either, equates to an Under on Saturday.
Premier League Predictions: Under 3.25 (-110)
Newcastle vs Arsenal | September 28 | 11:30 AM ET
Newcastle +255 | Arsenal +110 | Draw +235
Big game on Sunday between Arsenal and Newcastle as the Gunners look to keep pace with league leaders Liverpool at the top of the table, currently five points adrift after five games played. Newcastle, meanwhile, will look to find a way out of the bottom-half of the table after securing just one win from their opening five games so far.
Newcastle own a solid record against Arsenal across previous seasons, especially up in the north-east, where the Magpies have won four of their last five meetings against the Gunners outright, including all of the last three at St. James’.
However, Newcastle’s inability to score this season has been front and center after the departure of top scorer Alexander Isak to Liverpool for a British-record transfer fee of $170 million earlier this month.
That loss has seen the Magpies scoring just three goals all season so far, the joint-second lowest return in the league overall, along with drawing three blanks across those five games, as well as having the second-lowest xG per shot data also.
Despite recent history between these two sides suggesting Newcastle offer good value in this spot, this current Magpies outfit look a long way from the one that beat PSG two years ago, and we expect a focused Arsenal team, who can ill afford to drop any more points to Liverpool in the title race, to get the job done on Sunday.
Premier League Predictions: Arsenal -0.25 (-120)
Everton vs West Ham | September 29 | 3:00 PM ET
Everton -130 | West Ham +340 | Draw +260
Final game of the slate on Monday sees West Ham travel the long-distance up to Everton in a game that both teams will be eager to turn around a recent dip of form in.
Hammers manager Graham Potter looks all but gone from the club at this point after opening up the current campaign with four losses from his first five games, a disastrous run only equalled by the even-worse Wolves, and according to all of the latest reports at the time of writing, the West Ham board are fully intent on replacing Potter with former Nottingham Forest manager Nuno Espirito Santo as soon as possible.
Everton, meanwhile, have looked revitalized under former long-time boss David Moyes who returned to the club back in January, and started the season brightly, securing six points from their opening three games.
However, with a recent run of three straight games without a win heading into Monday’s matchup, including last Tuesday’s EFL Cup exit to Wolves, Everton will want to regain some momentum here, and they have a big chance to do just that against a defensively challenged West Ham side.
No team has allowed more goals at the back this season than West Ham have, including the Hammers owning the league’s third-worst first-half goals allowed record also.
We like Everton to get on the scoresheet early in this one, and likely hand West Ham another loss in the process.
Premier League Prediction: 1H Everton Team Total Over 0.5 (-115)
