Two well-known fighters who have endured tough times recently clash in a crossroads matchup over in Chicago this Saturday.

Former WBA and WBC light-welterweight champion Regis Prograis is coming off two wide losses across his last two fights, and at 36 years of age, it remains to be seen what he has left in the tank at the top of the division.

Facing him is a fighter who has been in even worse form, JoJo Diaz, with the former IBF super-featherweight champion losing six of his last seven fights overall, a lot of them coming against very stiff competition, however.

Regis Prograis enters Saturday’s bout as the huge -900 favorite, with JoJo Diaz coming back as a +550 underdog.

Prograis Knows He Has All The Natural Advantages Ahead Of This One

Standing a full two inches taller than his opponent, and with a three-inch reach advantage to boot, the fully-fledged 140-lber in this fight, Regis Prograis, knows he carries all of the necessary natural advantages ahead of Saturday’s bout.

While Prograis has been outboxed in his last two fights, he remains one of the division’s most dangerous punchers, knocking down Jack Catterall in his last fight, with 24 of his 29 wins coming by stoppage also.

JoJo Diaz has maintained in the lead-up to this fight that he feels strong at the weight and that his body is filling out nicely, but all that remains to be seen until Saturday’s opening bell sounds.

What we do know, however, is that Diaz is an exceptional boxer, one with a decorated amateur background, including numerous national titles, and a fighter who’s consistently taken hard fights, making his recent losing run somewhat deceptive.

That aside, though, the smaller man will really need to be at his vintage best here on Saturday night in order to come out with the win.

JoJo Diaz is actually the better boxer of these two fighters, and should enjoy some early success on Saturday night with his more nimble frame and faster footwork.

One of Regis Prograis’ main drawbacks as a fighter is his footwork, with the New Orleans native often being guilty of plodding after opponents and hitting air against some of the more fluid fighters in the division, like he did against Devin Haney in their bout 18 months ago.

That said, sheer size and power should eventually take their toll in this fight, and despite JoJo Diaz being four years younger than Prograis, he’s endured the far harder road up to this point, and is arguably more worn down at this respective point of their careers.

At some point during the middle rounds, Prograis should start to exert his control of this fight, and using his underappreciated jab, start to break down JoJo Diaz across the back half of the fight, likely leading to a late stoppage.

Diaz has only been stopped once across his career so far, but that came very recently, against the equally heavy-handed Oscar Duarte in April of last year.
