We could be in store for another low scoring affair today as the Phillies and Astros close out their three-game set in Houston.

Only three total runs have been scored during the first two games (all by Houston) as Cristopher Sanchez goes up against Hunter Brown.

Sanchez sports a 2.54 road ERA and hasn’t allowed a first inning run in 11 of his 15 starts including six straight.

Houston sits as the worst first inning scoring team heading into today, failing to do so in almost 79% of their games.

The Phillies haven’t scored in the first inning in three straight with Brown not allowing a run in the first inning in 12 of 15 starts on the season including five straight.

Brown is a sneaky AL Cy Young award candidate sporting a 1.88 ERA on the season and a 1.19 ERA in 37.2 innings pitched at home.

Sure, the Phillies are the third best first inning scoring team in the league overall but when they play on the road they haven’t scored in 72% of those games in the first inning compared to not scoring in the first inning in just 57% of home games.

NRFI Best Bet Today #2: Tampa Bay Rays vs Kansas City Royals (+110)

The Rays and Royals have already notched back-to-back NRFI in their series as we see a third straight happening in their series finale today.

Shane Baz starts for Tampa Bay not allowing a first inning run in 14 of his 15 starts including 11 straight. His ERA stands at 4.79 heading in, but he’s been much better on the road this season sporting a 3.57 ERA compared to a 5.70 home ERA.

The Royals as a team sit with the best NRFI record in the league and have failed to score in the first inning in 77% of their home games.

Michael Lorenzen starts for Kansas City not allowing a first inning run in 13 of his 15 starts this season with the Rays failing to score in the first in three straight games.

Sure, Lorenzen has been inconsistent as of late, but he does sport a 3.30 home ERA compared to a 5.68 road ERA.
