Royals vs Tigers Prediction and Betting Preview | Friday May 30
Friday’s Royals vs Tigers contest is repeat of a pitching matchup that we just saw a couple weeks ago, so both lineups should have familiarity at the plate against the opposing starter. The GoldSheet team shares its thoughts on tonight’s AL Central showdown in Kansas City.

Detroit Tigers
Casey Mize is back on the mound after a brief stint on the IL with a hamstring issue. The former No. 1 pick has pitched very well this season, but it is fair to take a deeper look at the opponents that he has faced. Six of Mize’s eight starts have come against teams with a wRC+ below 100.
The Tigers’ current roster is hitting .212 in 116 plate appearances against Kansas City’s Seth Lugo with a 23.3-percent strikeout rate and a .288 weighted on-base average.
- Zach McKinstry is 4-for-11 with a triple and a home run.
- Spencer Torkelson is 3-for-11 with a home run and four strikeouts.
- Javier Baez is 6-for-17 with a triple and a home run.
Kansas City Royals
The Royals’ current lineup is hitting .356 in 95 plate appearances against Casey Mize with a very low 9.5-percent strikeout rate and a .418 weighted on-base average. Salvador Perez, Bobby Witt Jr, Freddy Fermin and Mark Canha each have home runs against the Tigers’ starter.
Lugo has some good box score numbers this season, but a closer look under the hood is telling a much different story. His hard-hit rate has climbed from 39.0-percent to 45.7-percent. His expected ERA (4.71) is nearly two runs higher than his actual ERA (3.02). His average exit velocity has climbed from 88.5 miles per hour to 90.5 miles per hour.

Royals vs Tigers Prediction
Both teams had off on Thursday, so both bullpens are rested and ready for the start of this AL Central clash. We’re going to avoid the full game and focus on the first five innings where we have a pair of starting pitchers that may be vulnerable. Good hitting conditions are expected in Kansas City this evening with humid air helping the ball to carry and winds blowing out to right field.
FIRST FIVE INNINGS OVER 4.5 RUNS (-110)
