NFL Thursday Night Football Props Prediction: Justin Herbert, Chargers 250+ Passing Yards (-126)

Justin Herbert has thrown for 264+ passing yards in 4 of 7 starts this season including a season high 420 yards as he completed 37-55 passes last week against the Indianapolis Colts.

The Los Angeles Chargers running game has struggled since Omarion Hampton went down with an injury and Herbet has weapons including a trio of talented wide receivers and an emerging target in rookie tight end Oronde Gadsden.

Last week, Charger running backs combined for only 23 rushing yards on 10 carries. The Minnesota Vikings defense has blitzed at the 2nd highest rate in the NFL and Herbert has thrived against the blitz with the 4th best passing grade this season (83.9) and last season (87.4) according to PFF.

The Vikings have actually done a solid job limiting opposing quarterbacks passing yards, but they did allow a season high 326 yards to Jalen Hurts in Week 7.

Herbert could also benefit from a healthier offensive line as tackles Joe Alt and Trey Pipkins III could return to action.

Herbert has been much more comfortable at home where he’s thrown for 300+ yards in 3/4 games and I see him carving up this Vikings defense on a short week.

NFL Thursday Night Football Props Prediction: T.J. Hockenson, Vikings OVER 33.5 Receiving Yards (-112)

TJ Hockenson has logged 38+ receiving yards in all four of Carson Wentz starts this season while averaging 42.3 yards on 6.5 targets per game.

Hockenson has been the safety blanket for the backup quarterback, and he’s received 17.7% of the Minnesota Vikings 188 passing attempts this season (33 targets).

The Los Angeles Chargers defense has actually done a solid job limiting production from opposing tight ends, but they did allow a season high 70 yards to Indianapolis Colts rookie Tyler Warren last week.

The Chargers defensive focus will be on wide receivers Justin Jefferson & Jordan Addison, and they play 2-high safety at the 7th highest rate in the NFL which leaves space underneath in coverage.

The Vikings are playing on the road as -3.5-point underdogs and that should lead to a positive game script for the Vikings tight end.

Hockenson has seen an increased target share, and he should continue to serve as check-down target for Wentz on Thursday night.
