NFL Monday Night Football Props Prediction: Jordan Mason, Vikings OVER 39.5 Rushing Yards (-110) DK
Minnesota Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell has called Jordan Mason and Aaron Jones running backs 1a and 1b in his system, insinuating that we will see a 50/50 share between the two backs.
Mason should thrive in a zone scheme similar to that of Kyle Shannahan’s in San Francisco where he covered this line in 8/12 games (67%) while averaging 65.8 yards per game.
Last season, 49% of Minnesota’s rushing attempts were zone runs which was the 12th highest mark in the NFL.
Mason flourished on these looks with an average of 4.93 yard per carry good for the 11th highest mark among running backs with 50+ carries.
The Chicago Bears defense was shredded last season as they allowed 2nd most yards to opposing running backs (119.8/game), the 4th most yards per carry overall (4.8/YPC) and the 7th most yards before contact (1.65).
Despite the glaring weaknesses, the Bears made no notable improvements to their front-seven, and it will take defensive coordinator Dennis Allen time to improve this unit.
JJ McCarthy will be making his first start at quarterback in a standalone game on Monday Night Football so O’Connell will lead on the running game early to establish the run and open up some play action looks.
The spread is a near pick’em so the running game should be utilized throughout the entire game.
NFL Monday Night Football Props Prediction: TJ Hockenson, Vikings OVER 40.5 Receiving Yards (-110)
TJ Hockenson has thrived in head-to-head games against the Chicago Bears with four straight games with 50+ receiving yards including 52- and 114-yard efforts during the 2024 campaign.
Hockenson missed the first few months of the 2024 season, but he covered this line in 6/11 games including a playoff game against the Los Angeles Rams where he caught all five of his targets for 64 yards. Now JJ McCarthy takes over as the Minnesota Vikings quarterback and we could see him lean on his tight ends as safety valves on some simple routes.
Wide receiver Jordan Addison is suspended for the first three games of the 2025 season and Adam Thielen just joined the team, so Hockenson is the logical #2 target behind Justin Jefferson.
The Chicago Bears allowed the 6th most yards to opposing in 2024 with an average of 59.5 yards per game.
The Bears allowed 50% of opposing tight ends to eclipse their respective yards lines while they averaged +9.7 yards above their closing lines.
We watched Chicago allow some massive efforts to tight ends last season including Zach Ertz (77 yards), Evan Engram (102) and George Kittle (151).
We already mentioned Hockenson’s monster game with 114 yards in Chicago last season, and we just need 41+ yards to cash this ticket.
