Free Picks For Gulfstream Park - 6/13/20

Race 5- Maiden Special Weight ($47,000)

This six-furlong race on the main track will have eight 3-year-old male competitors with three of the horses making their debuts. I believe there are three horses who could win this race. #6 Man of Honor shortens up the distance a little going from six and one-half furlongs, where the colt finished third after being outkicked in a battle for second at the wire, to the current distance. This will be Man of Honor’s second trip at Gulfstream and he will once again have Edgar Prado in the saddle. Man of Honor has been working out well and is making his seventh career start at six furlongs. #8 Flatter Me is making his debut at Gulfstream after ending his campaign at Aqueduct with a fourth-place after bouncing back from a troubled start where he broke through the gate against stiff competition back in December. Flatter Me had shown improvement in each of his two previous starts, registering a second-place finish in the outing prior to his last. Jockey Paco Lopez finished first or second in four of his seven starts on Wednesday. #1 Sir Kahn is also shortening up the distance (seven furlongs) from his last outing back on March 29 where he finally reached the podium finishing with the bronze. Sir Kahn’s early speed pace of 67 is a field highly -- just barely better than Flatter Me and #3 El Pillo, both of whom have registered an early ESpeed of 63 -- so I expect jockey Miguel Vasquez to attempt to win the sprint out of the gate. Prior to this layoff, the colt showed improvement in each of his two previous outings and he is making the seventh start at this distance. Additionally, I like the #7 Treasury the best among the newcomers.

Picks: I like an exacta box bet of #8, #6, #3. I also like a show bet on the #6.

Race 6 - Allowance Optional Claiming (Purse -$47,000)

This one mile $25,000 optional claimer will have six fillies and mares. I believe that #3 Violent Trick is the best horse in this small field. Violent Trick is making his first start under new trainer Todd Pletcher, whose horses have a 21% win percentage and a 47% WPS percentage in their first starts. The 4-year-old filly is racing for the first time since finishing a distant second at this level in a one and one-sixteenth mile setting over four months ago. Edgar Zayas gets the ride on Violent Trick who has won 36% of her starts at Gulfstream and is 4-for-6 at this distance (66.7%). #1 Solitary Gem is stretching out to a mile after claiming a victory against $32,000 starter allowance in a race that went seven furlongs in her debut at Gulfstream. Solitary Gem is on a three-race win streak and has finished in the money in seven straight outings as well as 11 of 12 overall. Trainer Peter Walder and jockey Miguel Vasquez has a strong working relationship. #2 Wrong Color is making her first start since winning back-to-back events at Penn National (PA) on Sept. 25 and Oct. 25, both of which were longer than a mile. The 4-year-old filly, who got a piece of the race in 60% (6-10) of her starts in 2019, finished in the money in four of five career races on the dirt last year. Wrong Color had a strong last workout, going five furlongs in 59 seconds. #4 Dance D’ Oro broke her maiden in her second career start (May 3) where she showed amazing improvement after finishing ninth in her career debut.

Picks: I like a win bet on the #3. I also a value show bet on the #2 as well as an exacta box of #3, #1, #2. Additionally, I like a trifecta bet of #3, #2, #1, #4.

Race 11 - The Coaltown Handicap (Purse -$55,000)

This one-mile handicap race consists of nine very talented 3-year-old’s and upwards. I believe #4 Diamond Ooops is the class of the meet. Diamond Oops, whose last seven starts have been stakes races, is making his first start since following his hard-fought impressive victory in the seven-furlong Grade 3 Mr. Prospector with a fourth-place finish in the nine-furlong Grade 1 Pegasus World Cup (Jan, 25). Multiple graded stakes-winning jockey Luca Pancini will look to lead the 5-year-old gelding to his six dirt win in 11 starts. #9 Math Wizard also has been on the stakes circuit recently though he has not had the success as Diamond Ooops. Math Wizard is coming off two disappointing efforts in the G1 Breeders’ Cup Classic, and the G3 Razorback Handicap where the 4-year-old colt finished 8th and 5th respectively. While Math Wizard is trending downward a little, he has finished in each of his four races at Gulfstream. #8 NOBLE DRAMA is stretching out to his most productive distance (4-3-0-0) after finishing second in the seven-furlong $100,000 Big Drama last time out. The 5-year-old gelding has also finished in the money in 11 of 18 starts in his career.

Picks: I like a win bet on the #4 if the odds are at least 2/1 or better. I also like an exacta box of #8,#9 as well as a trifecta bet of #4 keyed with #9, #8.
