2023 NFL Draft Betting Preview-Quarterbacks
You don’t have to be a great quarterback to earn a Super Bowl berth, but it doesn’t hurt. In the NFL, teams without franchise quarterbacks are always searching for the next Patrick Mahomes or Josh Allen. This year’s crop of quarterbacks revolves around five players: C.J. Stroud, Bryce Young, Anthony Richardson, Will Levis and Hendon Hooker. According to Draft Kings, Stroud is -330 to be the number one pick, while Hooker is at -25000. Let’s take a look at the top 10 quarterbacks in the 2023 NFL Draft as we head towards April 27-29 from Kansas City. Carolina trade up to get the top pick so with Frank Reich now at the helm, it seems that there’s a 100% chance that the Panthers draft a quarterback as their number one pick.

1)C.J. Stroud, 6-3, 219, Ohio State
Stroud doesn’t have major weaknesses. He’s accurate and has enough arm strength to be very good. Could use a little more size on his frame, which will come with age.
2)Bryce Young, 5-10, 204, Alabama
One of the most polarizing quarterbacks in this draft, because he’s very good at just about everything including vision and ability to read defenses. He’s just undersized and that’s always a concern. He also can run, but is not a Kyle Murray-type of athlete.
3)Anthony Richardson, 6-4, 232, Florida
Another polarizing pick because he’s got all the athletic variables and size, but needs more touch on his passes. Has a tremendous arm and if teams are willing to be patient, he could be prime Cam Newton or even better. Completed just 53.7% of his passes last season.
4)Hendon Hooker, 6-3, 221, Tennessee
Hooker is coming off a torn ACL and he’s 25 already. He finally figured things out at Tennessee who threw for 58 TDs and just five picks. Can run and has a nice long ball.
5)Will Levis, 6-4, 230, Kentucky
Another strong-armed SEC quarterback with questions. Levis can really wing it and some see a poor man’s Josh Allen with the size, arm strength and athletic ability. But in college, he never really developed as an accurate passer.
6)Aidan O’Connell, Purdue, 6-3, 212
O’Connell seems to be a late sleeper as a pocket passer (yes, there are still some left), who improved in his career at Purdue. Has solid accuracy and very good timing. He doesn’t run much, but isn’t a bad athlete.
7)Tanner McKee, Stanford, 6-6, 230
Everybody loves the size, which puts him in that Trevor Lawrence category. Unlike Lawrence, he doesn’t move that well. He didn’t have a lot of talent surrounding him at Stanford. A super tall QB with a big arm who is average athletically.
8)Jake Haener, Fresno State, 6-0, 210
Haener started his career at Washington State and wound up as a pretty good QB at Boise State. At 24, he’s a scrappy QB kind of like Taylor Heinicke, but lacks the size and athletic ability to be a strong starter.
9)Clayton Tune, Houston, 6-2, 215
Tune is also 24, but a gunslinger who can make all the throws to a point. He has struggled with accuracy on the deep ball. Did have impressive numbers last season, completing 67.4% of his passes for 40 TDs and 10 picks with 548 rushing yards.
10)Stetson Bennett, Georgia, 5-11, 190
When it comes to winning titles, nobody does it better. The former walk-on lacks size to be a starting quarterback and will turn 26 in October. Another Heinicke-type who is athletic with a good fell in the pocket and took advantage of his personnel.
