Ben Simmons suffers dislocated kneecap
The last thing the Philadelphia 76ers needed in the NBA re-start was to lose a key player for a significant amount of time.
That appeared to have happened on Wednesday when star guard/forward Ben Simmons had to leave the Sixers/Washington Wizards game due to a knee injury.
After testing, the 76ers learned that Simmons would be out indefinitely due to a subluxation of his left patella.
Simmons suffered what is also term as a partial dislocation of the kneecap in the third quarter of Philadelphia’s 107-98 win over the Wizards.
Simmons (6-10, 240) was averaging 16.4 points, 7.8 rebounds and 8.0 assists as a point guard, though he had moved to power forward in the re-start. He struggled offensively in three games in Orlando, scoring just 35 points in three games and dishing out 13 assists with 21 boards.
Without Simmons, the Sixers could go back to Al Horford at power forward and Shake Milton at point guard. Another option is to go smaller with Tobias Harris (6-8, 225) playing power forward and Alec Burks (14.7ppg) playing small forward.
Either way, Philadelphia will hope to have Simmons back by the playoffs, though the team doesn’t really know how long he’ll be out.
