Free Picks For Gulfstream Park - 7/1/20

Race -2 Maiden Special Weight (Purse-$65,000)

10 2-year-old fillies, along with four also eligibles, are scheduled to go five furlongs on the turf. I really like #11 Teque, who made a bid down the stretch but was no match for winner Amanzi Yimplio as she finished three lengths in back of the winner in her debut. Teque is an also-eligible but if she is given the clearance, I expect jockey Christian Torres to get a nice trip. Regardless if Teque runs, #9 Gem Thief could come out the victor. Gem Thief debuts on the turf after showing some early interest and fading to finish fourth in her 4 ½- furlong debut on the main track. Jockey Mario Pino has a career 20% win rate and a 51% WPS percentage with 2-year runners. While #1 Dancing in Fire and #5 Abuela Cori also have a race under their belts, I am going with freshmen runners to fill out the ticket. #6 Uyuni, a daughter of Uncle Mo, out of a Pulpit dam, has put up consistent workouts on both the turf and dirt recently. Plus, trainer Wesley Ward with the youngsters had a very good year with 23 of his 31 2-year-old runners scoring a top 3 finish which includes nine winners. #8 Social Exclusion, a daughter of Social Inclusion, also has put up strong recent workouts -- going three-furlongs in 36.06 seconds and four-furlongs in 48.4 ticks. #7 I Get It should also be a factor.

Picks: I like a win bet on the #11 and/or #9. I also like a show bet on #6 and #8. Additionally, I like an exacta box of #9, #11.

Race 4 - Maiden Special Weight ($47,000)

Seven fillies, along with MTO Scamper Along, will also five furlongs on the turf. This should be an exciting and tight race with four of the participants already having at least one race in hand. I truly believe that this will end up a battle between #2 Fuddled and #5 Avuncular. I will take Fuddled in this one. The Irish 4-year-old is expected to be primed and ready to make amends for a sixth-place finish in her last effort following a long layoff. Emisael Jaramillo and Saffie Joseph have a 24% win rate win working together this year. Avuncular in this one as the 3-year-old Florida horse finished third in her first race on the grass on April 5. The daughter of Uncle Mo is now part of Kent Sweezy’s barn, which has a career 14% win rate as well as a 41% WPS percentage. #8 Da Moose Is Loose showed some excellent early speed in her debut which helped put her in position to claim gold before weakening and holding on for silver in a five and one-half furlong race. This is Da Moose is Loose’s first race in 2020.

Picks: I like an exacta box of #2, #5. I also like a show bet on the #8.

Race 6 - Allowance Optional Claiming $62,500 (Purse - $48,000)

This really small field will go one mile on the main track which should be a high-quality meet though I don’t give Glory of Florida or I’m a G Six much of a chance. #3 Overdeliver has cashed in four straight races and earned his second victory -- in four starts under the direction of trainer Saffie Joseph Jr. -- while posting a career-high 107 ESpeed in a mile event against $25,000 claimers. The 4-year-old gelding likes this distance, posting two victories in three tries, and has registered all four of his victories at Gulfstream. Plus, jockey Edgar Zayas produced two wins and four top 3 finishes in seven rides on Tuesday. #2 Squeezadios has a good early pace for this field of competitors and owns a career 76.4% WPS percentage. The 4-year-old gelding has finished in the money in two straight outings after finishing third against $50,000 optional claimers in a mile event on a rain-soaked surface the last time out. Expect #5 Outshine to be alongside Squeezadios out front in the early going as he possesses a good early pace as well. The 4-year-old colt was claimed by Saffie Joseph Jr. after his last race where he took down a strong group of $16,000 claimers.

Picks: I like an exacta box of #3, #2, #5. I also like a show bet on the #5.
