Free Picks For Mountaineer - 9/8/20
Race 3- Maiden Special Weight (Purse -$15,500)
Seven fillies and mares will go one mile.
#4 Fancy Sky gets a little relief in distance and will look to get off to a better start than her previous outing where she finished second in a mile and seventy yards and even led a portion of the race before being out-finished -- losing by a neck-- in her debut. Jockey Odhair Mayta, who has a 19% strike rate in 2020 while also finishing in the top 3 49% of the time, will be in the irons.
#7 Marykate Princess has been raced a lot lately and has two third-place finishes in her last four outings and four times overall in 2020. The 3-year-old Kentucky filly is a closer and she has a lot of experience at the current distance, which includes her last outing where she finished in a $7,500 maiden claiming event at Ellis Park.
#2 Mine’s Perfect showed marked important over her previous outing and also is gets seventy yards in relief after finishing third at the longer distance in a race at this level at Belterra Park. The daughter of Mineshaft is trained by D. Kelly Ackerman, whose horses have finished in the money in 53% of the races that they have participated in this year.
Picks: I like a winning bet on the #4. I also like a show bet on #7. In addition, I also like an exacta box of #4, #7, #2.
Race 7- Allowance
Five male runners, following a pair of scratches, will go seven furlongs. This should be an outstanding race it appears that any of five horses could win. The
#1 Reform School is racing in consecutive months for the first time since last October/November. The 3-year-old son of Munnings has some decent and likes to get out in front but I’m not sure that is the play here as several horses also have decent speed. Reform School, who is coming off a seventh-place finish as a result of tiring after pressuring the pace in a five-furlong event, has recorded a top 3 finish in 75% of his races which includes two wins.
#5 Zafir has raced pretty evenly the last three outings though he is stretching out in this event. Zafir is coming off a nearly four-length victory in a five-furlong event here at this level here at Mountaineer, where the 4-year-old son of Scat Daddy has finished either first or second in his two events. Alex Gonzalez, who is having a career season, will be in the irons.
#7 Free Dancer is coming off a driving victory at Charles Town in an allowance race going this distance. He is 6-2-2-0 this year and has finished in the money in 75% of his career starts.
Picks: I like a win bet on the #1.
Race 4 - Starter allowance $4,000 (Purse- $13,2000)
Eight fillies and mares will sprint six furlongs.
#3 Southern Imperfection made a resounding debut at Mountaineer, winning the six-furlong event at this level in driving fashion, on a sloppy but sealed track. It was the third win in four starts for the 6-year-old mare, who also turned out a nice workout session for trainer Elliot Sullivan.
#4 Opeonga has proven that she can run on any surface and moves back to the dirt after winning on the grass at this level going five furlongs. The 5-year-old mare has run well at Mountaineer recently, cashing in six of her last seven tries which includes four victories.
#2 Sharpin has liked Mountaineer Park since moving up from Charles Town, finishing in the top three in each of her four races which includes a trio of victories.
Picks: I like an exacta box of #3, #4, #2.
