Free Picks For Parx -8/3/20

Race 5 - Maiden Special Weight (Purse -$40,000)

10 2-year-olds will sprint four-and-one-half furlongs. Nine of the runners will be making their debut with only #6 Nobody Knew having previously raced. I’m going with #2 Reigning Champion in his debut as the Pennsylvania gelding turned in a pair of great three-furlong workouts, registering that distance in less than 36 seconds including one workout at a very swift 35.1 seconds. Trainer Edward J. Coletti has a career 15% win rate with 2-year-olds. Nobody Knew should be primed to improve his performance in his debut where he set the pace but ended up being no match for the winner and ended up third at Delaware Park. The son of Secret Circle, whose foals have a combined winning percentage of 17%, does get a little relief in this outing as his foray at Delaware was five-and-one-half furlongs. #3 Fearless Fly, the son of Fast Anna, has been training decently well recently and will have jockey Angel Castillo, who has won 33% of his races and finished in the money 47% of the time with 2-year-olds in 2020, onboard. #5 Money Kid and #8 Saponara are also worth a possible play in exotic bets.

Picks: I like a show bet on the #2. I also like an exacta box of #2,#3, #6

Race 8 - Maiden Special Weight (Purse - $40,000)

10 fillies will sprint five-and-one-half furlongs. I like #3 Jamie’s Wunderlust in her debut. The 3-year-old daughter of Munnings has “killed it” in her workouts, twice registering a top 3 training time, among 15 and 16 other runners, as she went four-furlongs in under 47.92 seconds. Jockey Mychel Sanchez has a “strike rate” of 17% while also owning a 42 WPS% with 2-year-old runners. #2 Helene Jacqueline has been pretty consistent over her last four races despite not being able to breakthrough. The 3-year-old New York filly, who has shown the earliest speed of all competitors, is coming off a second-place performance at Monmouth Park on July 11 where she was the beaten favorite. #8 Risque’s Jewel gets a little distance relief over her last start where she finished seventh after weakening in a six-furlong event at Parx on June 23 following a three-month layoff. But the 3-year-old Pennsylvania filly has recorded four top 3 finishes, including two in four starts in 2002, and had a good last training session. #9 Map of America didn’t finish her last out (July 11) but was fourth in her first outing and put up a 47-second four-furlong workout on July 26.

Picks: I like a win bet on the #3. I also like a show bet on the #8. Additionally, I like an exacta box of #3, #2, #8.

Race 9 - Allowance Optional Claiming $50,000 ( Purse -$45,000)

Eight 5-year-old and upwards male runners will sprint five furlongs on the turf. This should be an outstanding fast five-furlong. #7 Dubini has a lot of class as he is a multiple stakes winner though he has failed to hit the board in each of his last three outings. He runs extremely well on the turf where he has won five races and recorded a top-3 finish 56% of his starts. In addition, Dubini has three victories in four starts in Allowance Optional Claiming races.#3 Battle Station used a strong close to win a five-furlong race on the grass against $25,000 optional claimers at Delaware Park on July 7. The 5-year-old New York gelding has three wins and finished in the money in 60% of his races on the grass. #1 Raging Bull has run well recently with three straight top 2 finishes after tiring down the stretch in his first race of the 2020 campaign in a $25,000 starter allowance race on July 7. This will be the 5-year-old gelding's second foray on the turf -- he ran well at the beginning of that Handicap race before giving up. #2 Nice Tune and #8 Smooth B should also be considered to fill out your ticket.

Picks: I like an exacta box bet of #2, #3.
