Free Picks For Parx - 8/5/20

Race 7 - Maiden Special Weight (Purse - $40,000)

Seven 3-year-old and 4-year-old geldings and colts are set to go one mile on the dirt. #2 Jerusalem Gates is looking for his maiden win after finishing second in each of his first two outings. This is the 4-year-old Pennsylvania gelding’s first venture going a mile. Jockey Frankie Pennington and trainer John Servis have won 15% of their starts when working together this year. #1 Mr, Thrifty has run well at Parx and should be primed for an improved effort after registering a personal-best 84 ESpeed and finishing third, a nose behind Jerusalem Gates, in his 2020 debut on June 24. Mr. Thrifty, who has put up some decent workouts, is also trying the mile for the first time.#6 Baringer Spring and #5 Stash My Money has been pretty consistent and both have experience at this distance. I expect Baringer Spring, who has put a solid ESpeed of 89 at this distance and Stash My Money, who has four cashes in seven starts this year, to battle for a piece of the ticket.

Picks: I like a win on #2. I also like an exacta box of #2, #1, #5, #6.

Race 9 - Starter Allowance $25,000 (Purse - $27,000)

Eight fillies and mares will go seven furlongs. I believe that this should be a very good race. #2 Odd Gal has won two straight races since coming up north from Gulfstream, winning by over 10 furlongs at Parx on June 24 against $12,500 starter’s allowances and she followed that up with a two-length victory against $20,000 claimers at Delaware on July 16. The 4-year-old Pennsylvania filly has cashed in 50% of her starts at Parx though this is her first foray at this distance. #1 Slinging Sammy B has shown improvement in her performances since coming to Parx from Gulfstream Park four starts back. The 4-year-old Kentucky filly has recorded a second-place finish in each of her last two starts and posted a career-high ESpeed rating of 95 two weeks ago while going one mile and seventy yards in a $7,500 starter allowance race. #3 Dance and Dance has run well at Parx and should be in the top flight as she has a decent early speed. This is the 4-year-old Kentucky filly’s third race since coming off layoff and she finished second at this level and distance two starts back. Dance and Dance has finished in the top 3 in eight of 11 races on the dirt, which includes three victories.

Picks: I like an exacta box of #2,#1, #3. I also like a show bet on the #3.

Race 6 Claiming $7,500 (Purse - $26,000)

Eight 3-years-old and upward male runners will go six and one-half furlongs. #6 It’s Good to Be Us is the class of this field and is dropping way down in class after finishing a disappointing 10th, following a bobbled start, against $25,000 starter allowance foes the last time out -- which was his first outing in four months. The 5-year-old son of Tapit, who has three career wins, is making his third start under trainer Jacinto Solis. It’s Good to Be Us has shown the earliest pace speed, in what should be a slow race, and runs extremely well at this distance. #5 Tattered has been extremely consistent in his last five starts, nabbing a top 3 finish in each of those events which include a second-place showing the last time out going five-and-one-half furlongs in a $7,500 starter allowance race on July 13. Tattered recorded 18 cashes in 23 career events. #8 Dreamy Martini has shown improvement in his last two starts. The 7-year-old gelding also has shown well at this distance previously.

Picks: I like a win on the #6. I also like an exacta box of #6, #5.
