NFL Scouting Combine-Quarterbacks

If you are looking to get a jump on your 2024 NFL handicapping, let’s take a look at some of the top players at each position for the 2024 NFL Scouting Combine, which starts on Feb. 29 from Indianapolis. We'll start with the quarterback.

Most know who the number one player and that’s expected to be USC’s Caleb Williams, who is -1000 to be picked first by Chicago or another team in a trade. Drake May is +600 to be picked first and -140 to be picked second. As mentioned a few weeks earlier, Jayden Daniels has zoomed up the rumor mill to be picked second by Washington at +120.

Here are som Combine props from Draft Kings

Fastest 40-yard dash time

Slower than 4.265 seconds -115

Roman Willson over Michigan has reportedly run a 4.37 and you never know with players like Leadtrick Griffin from Mississippi State and Troy Franklin of Oregon as speedy wideouts, who should run fast times, but not that fast.

Quarterbacks

They don’t test until 1pmET on Saturday, March 2 along with RBs and WRs.

1)Caleb Williams, USC (6-1, 220)

Big arm coming off a disappointing season. Dynamic runner with the ball. Can throw every kind of ball. Takes chances instead of checkdowns and will need to play it safer in the NFL, but the upside is tremendous.

2)Drake May, North Carolina (6-4, 230)

The biggest question is whether to take Maye or Daniels at No. 2 and that’s a matter of taste. May has a sturdier frame and a nice touch. Will run when necessary. Played behind a bad offensive line last season at North Carolina. Made some poor decisions, but was that due to the line or just being careless? More a safe pick without the huge upside.

3)Jayden Daniels, LSU (6-4, 210)

Daniels won the Heisman Trophy last season. Is tall and lean and different than some of the other running QBs like Lamar Jackson due to his frame. He’s also more speedy than quick. Is a really smooth thrower. Has excellent touch and decision-making.

4)J.J. McCarthy, Michigan (6-3, 202)

McCarthy is an efficient quarterback with a good arm. Needs to add some size because he’s a very good runner with good speed. Can make most of the throws and has the accuracy to fit the tight windows.

5)Michael Penix, Washington (6-3, 214)

Penix has been around and has had injuries, but he’s a fighter and has a big, big arm. Has good vision an accuracy. More of a pocket passer and it’s probably for the best due to a variety of injuries he’s suffered throughout his career.
