Two Major League Baseball games postponed on Monday

Baseball's worst nightmare was that a COVID-19 outbreak would take place on a baseball team and that they would have to halt the season or least postpone games. On Monday, Major League Baseball had to postpone the Miami/Baltimore game as well as the Philadelphia/NY Yankees contest.

All of this took place due to an outbreak of the coronavirus among the Miami Marlins. The Marlins just completed a series against the Phillies from Philadelphia. An outbreak spread throughout their clubhouse and according to ESPN's Jeff Passan and Jesse Rogers, their total cases in recent days is now at least 13.

The Marlins also released a statement on behalf of CEO Derek Jeter.

"The health of our players and staff has been and will continue to be our primary focus as we navigate through these unchartered waters," he said. "After a successful Spring 2.0, we have now experienced challenges once we went on the road and left Miami. Postponing tonight's home opener was the correct decision to ensure we take a collective pause and try to properly grasp the totality of this situation."

The Marlins/Orioles do not play on Tuesday, but the Phillies/Yankees are scheduled to play that day. That game could also be in jeopardy according to ESPN's Pedro Gomez.

Miami had already been dealing with four players who tested positive including Sunday's starting pitcher Jose Urena, according to ESPN. That led the team to delay its trip from Philadelphia to Miami, due to a potential outbreak, which apparently has happened. The Marlins previously played in Atlanta on Wednesday in an exhibition game, which some feel where the infections could have occurred.
