The PLAY: Pittsburgh Pirates -122 Chris Bassitt (RHP), Braxton Ashcraft (RHP) Must Start
This is a long way from the World Series matchups between these two in the 70s (1971 & '79), both incidentally won by the Pirates. Too soon to be thinking along those lines again but there is growing excitement in the 'burgh around the Bucs as they go for the sweep of Baltimore at PNC Park on Sunday.
After losing three of its first four, Pittsburgh has won four in a row, including Saturday's walk-off win over the Birds on Neil Yorke's ninth-inning single that drove home Bryan Reynolds. The offense has scored 24 runs across those wins, and rookie phenom SS Kolton Griffin made his MLB debut on Friday. The bullpen has also tightened up in the win streak, while Sunday starter Braxton Ashcraft went a quality six innings last Monday at Cincinnati, allowing just 2 runs thru 6 IP.
Meanwhile, the O's might be wondering about vet rotation add Chris Bassitt, most recently with Toronto but struggling mightily in his Baltimore debut vs the Rangers on Monday, allowing 4 runs and 6 hits in just 4 1/3 IP of an eventual 5-2 loss. We use the Bucs at -122, the best price in the marketplace on the overnights, but the price could inch up; we'd draw the line at -135, as Pittsburgh stays in play for us up to that point.
