The PLAY: Total Under 1.5 (126)
Though we don’t want to suggest any conspiracy here, or a re-do of the 1982 Disgrace of Gijon between Austria and West Germany, the fact is both Paraguay and Australia will comfortably advance from Group D to the KO phase on four points with a draw on Thursday.
The consequences for advancing as a second or third-place finisher are negligible (for the moment, the Socceroos have the edge of +1 on goal differential), though even under notmal circumstances and consequences, Paraguay’s patented cynical style and time-wasting tactics suggests neither would be likely to escape the gravity pull of the other. This looks a potential hard watch...no fireworks expected in the Bay Area! Play Paraguay-Australia “Under” (at Santa Clara)
